View Full Version : Technique advice for simple hotel interiors

Hi everyone,

I will soon need to take some simple interior shots of hotel rooms. They don't need to be too flattering, but do need to be accurate and well exposed. I have no intention of renting lights or anything like that.

I will be using my 20D (and my EOS 33 as a backup) and a 20mm wide angle lens. My plan is to:

- Point the camera, set to spot metering, at the room's window and make a note of the exposure readings.

- Put the camera on a tripod and set to 'M', entering these values manually.

- Bounce flash from my Speedlite from the white ceiling to illuminate the room. (Evaluative metering with no flash seems far too contrasty when the only light source is one window.)

I have done a couple of tests, and they look OK and fairly evenly exposed. I just wanted to ask if there's anything I'm forgetting? Is there anything that would improve the pictures at the shooting stage, or make the process more simple?

Thanks for your advice, I really want these to work out well.

Best,
