Hey all.....got a band that wants me to do headshots for their CD...just wanted to get any tips on shooting these, maybe some examples or something. Trying to figure out good angles to use and how far down the body a headshot should go.

Oh and also, what I should charge.....I've been told $100. I feel funny asking for that much, but that's because I'm an amateur and extremely pessimistic / negative, so I always bash my own work and never think it's worth any praise

Thanks in advance

I've been shooting bands lately, both live shots and promo shots, and have been told that my rates are too low, and they're somewhat higher than $100.00.

Nothing says an "amateur" can't take a pro-quality photo. If you take it, and they like it, you should be paid for it.

Work out an "introductory" offer. If they like the shots, they'll come back the next time they need some. I've shot one band seven times already. I did the first shoot for what would be considered "grossly minimal". I don't do that anymore; don't have to. They're willing to pay for the service and the photos.

I don't do this for a living, so I don't really know what the "norm" would be. Perhaps some of the people here who are actually paying the light bill with their photography could better guide you. I can only share what I've done...

Ummm, Bill Gates would charge for the initial goods plus licence it somehow...

Steve glad to see the Gibson in the line up.

Oh, a definite "must have" if there ever was one.

And you'll appreciate this because of your user name, I run it through a Fulltone Fulldrive, into a Hot Rod Deluxe...

Ernie Ball Music Man here. Be sure and post up some of your shots if you get a chance, Chris :)
