and nothing! It looks the same as before, except it told me to turn my contrast to maximum, and my brightness ended up at 44/100. Apart from that everything looks exactly the same as before. When the Monaco loader starts the color doesn't change at all. I'm using a new Samsung SyncMaster 910T LCD.

Is this what's meant to happen? Or have I done something wrong? I just followed the on-screen instructions, then rebooted like it said. I expected to see something at least from a US$200 calibration system!

1. Did you select the new profile you created as your default monitor profile?
2. Did you physically remove Adobe Gamma Loader from the Start Up folder? Just drag it from the folder to the desktop and leave it there. It isn't enough to uncheck it in msconfig. It took me a while to figure that out. I had the same problem.

Thanks Scott, and yes to both. I've checked that the adobe gamma has been removed from the registry too, and in addition there was another graphics gamma loader running that came with my video card. The only gamma loader running is MonacoGamma.

Maybe it's working... but I don't see any difference at all.

Maybe your monitor was correctly calibrated in the first place. Print something and see if the colors on your print match those on your monitor - consider yourself lucky if they do!

I bet you'll find the monitor was pretty much spot on already. ;)

With Adobe Gamma, I'm also at 100 contrast, and 34 brightness.
A lot different to my old settings.

Are you using a color-managed application, like Photoshop? If you are running Windows, you're not going to see any change when looking at the desktop.

When I calibrated my monitor, I discovered that my monitor's color temperature setting was way off. Needless to say, I saw a huge difference.

I used the Monaco Optrix XR to calibrate the display.

When I was using adobe gamma I had similar settings on the monitor, but when adobe gamma started up I could see the screen change the way it looked. With the Monaco I don't see any change at all. Maybe it was calibrated best if can be out of the box, but i'd like to find a way to check it.

Right now it seems like US$200 was wasted :(

Can anyone else offer any advice about what's going on with my monitor/calibration?

Matt - delete the adobe gamma loader from the startup folder.

With your new display, did it require you to install anything from a CD?

If so, a factory profile of your monitor was probably installed and set to the monitor profile.
LCD's are extremely consistent when it comes to color.
So, you probably will not see much of a difference for the near future, but over time your profiling device will become your best fiend!

I probably did install something for the LCD, I installed so many things around that time i'm not sure.

Thanks to the guys at FM I have a partial answer at least: the monaco loader doesn't seem to work. If I go into the setup of my nVidia 6600GT and manually choose the color profile, the screen changes drastically, getting a lot darker, the colors more saturation, and the details disappear. So that answer that question.

The next question is why does the profile Monaco made look so dark? It's similar to what adobe gamma made, but darker again.
