Very nice! Why don't you try making the background black on one of those using PhotoShop. It's kind of a neat trick I just learned. Here is one like that I took the other day:

the flowers look lovely and nice and warm , as you mention it was very cold when you were taking the shots

def. this is no criticism at all but as you mention you like to do some macro photographs can I just say.....
as regards the 'baby's breath' flowers,
they are very nice but sometimes its best to get closer to the 'item' for a macro shot
and to get it to fill the picture completely not showing any extra parts of the flower (in this case) either behind or around.
unless you are taking a different kind of shot, like a bunch of flowers . but then it usually won't be a macro shot
the pheasant's foot is funny, moving in closer to that without the background would make it more dramatic too. also the glass candy is nice
one sweet on its own without the other colours behind all competing for attention , may be even nicer
the colours are nice

I agree with marie. Try to focus on one subject when doing macro shots, rather than an entire area.

Thanks Marie and JenLJ! No one is speaking out of place. That is the best way to learn! I am always open to suggestions for improvement. That is why I am an amature and do this for fun.

I ordered a 6 point star filter which arrived today. More practice to come with that.

rssfhs - share the secret of the black background. It is something I have wanted to figure out too, but have not taken the time to do it.

btw, marie, the fish is a walleye, and was his Whopper with the ND fish and game dept. it 1985 at 8lbs 7oz. Here is a full pic of it on the wall http://www.pbase.com/image/14162170. Just a very quick snapshot.

There is no secret. Just use the magic wand tool on PhotoShop to select everything but the flower (hold the shift key down while you click until everything gets selected), then delete it or fill it with black.
You might try changing the tolorance number up or down also if too little or too much gets selected at once and it helps to take the original flower photo with a dark and simple background.

Give it a try and let us see your results.

WOW - that took a bit of time!! It is less than (far less than!) perfect, but it was a learning experience. I will definitely do more of these in the future!

Let's see....what did I learn -- first, take my contacts out before I start (they really dried out staring at the screen); second, make an adjustment layer first!; third, you really have to zoom in to get everything selected.
