Good move my friend, especiallty with the lens kit you chose rather than the cheaper one, the difference is major. In my part of Canada, Canon offers a battery grip combo package which is almost the prie of a battery. So for the price of a battery you get a case, an extra battery and a battery grip which I now couldn't live without. Check it out with your dealer, I'm sure the offer stands pretty much everywhere...
What I also learned at my expense is that my baby, the 1D markII is not compatible with my EF-S lens from my 20D so if you plan to upgrade in a near future or just to think ahead, I suggest you go with compatible lens like EF for later use with other cameras...
Of course you might already know all of that but just in case!!!

Really? Must be an email typo in that case. The dude selling me the gear reccommended a filter, so I assumed he knew what he was talking about!

The dude selling me the gear reccommended a filter, so I assumed he knew what he was talking about! :confused:What he knew about was the profit in selling filters :-) I would suggest that you get a lens hood for that lens. It will provide more protection (under most conditions) than a filter can. If you're going to shoot in salt spray or blowing sand, then a filter is useful. The rest of the time, it can be detrimental to the quality of your photos.
