Due to work commitments, I couldn't get down to Cadwell park as planned, so instead I spent a couple of hours at Harewood Speed Hillclimb for their first meeting of the season. Unfortunately, the meeting seemed to lack a little bit of flow, and it seemed that everyone was playing their way back into the swing of things gently. There's not much variation in here, as I only watched two full runs and spent nearly as much time spectating as I did photographing.

Anyway, enough waffle and on to some photographs.

#1 A very fast bike engined Force

#2 Early on and competitors walk the course to discuss the finer points of getting around Quarry Corner in one piece.

#3 This photograph highlights something I've noticed about the 7D when I shoot in RAW and convert in C1 Pro v5. That is the vibrancy of the colours. This has had absolutely no saturation added to it and yet it borders on being way overdone to my eye.

#4 Detail shot from the paddock (it was a dirty car, not a dirty sensor ;))

#5 Jedi getting on the brakes for Quarry Corner

#6 Formula Ford tipping it into Farmhouse Bend

#7 A very rapid and well driven 205 lifting a wheel at Quarry

Not a bad way to spend a couple of hours on a bright, sunny spring day!

As usual, any comments or feedback is most welcome.

Cheers,

Simon.

Hi Simon

#5 of the Jedi looks great, really do like the detail and that slight bit of heat haze.

Cheers Alan!

Always fancied a go in a Jedi, but doubt I would fit in one LOL!

Simon, I am not convinced Phase One have the 7D conversion right. I have been playing about with it before parting with hard cash, using some pantone colour charts and comparing it with MKII conversions and reds are not right, appearing over-saturated. Canon's own software is the most accurate, but It is so clunky.

I had a stinking cold over the weekend and missed Cadwell myself. Had thought about the 5 minute drive to Harewood but I felt really lousy.

Next comission is Oulton weekend after this. I am thoroughly ashamed to say it will involve some drifting, probably me face down in the lake commiting suicide from the embarassment!

Fantastic shots Simon - as always. I particularly like #2 which really captures some of the spirit of the event. They're all top quality shots, but I think #3 & #7 are my favourites as I prefer these compositions with more space around the subject cars. The others in my opinion are a bit too tight in the frame - I guess this is because you were using a prime lens with fixed focal length? Great work though.

Just an aside - did you get the PM i sent you? I'm not sure that it sent properly!

I still think that C1 gives the best output for the 7D file, but I still need to play around a little to settle on the conversion settings for bright sunlight.

Yes I was using a prime, but also just wanted to shoot some nice tightly framed shots for no other reason than I could. On another day, I might have slapped a wide angle on and shot the scene that way to get a completely different picture, like this one which was shot the exactly the same place: -

I've also replied to your PM - apologies for being a bit slow off the mark there.

Cheers,

Simon.

Blinding stuff me old China ;)

The colours "problem" is an issue i experienced with the 50D too, particularly in strong sunlight but i think i've got that sorted now...i'll need another sunny day to see if my C1 settings definitely work though :)

Now, can i be bothered to post any shots <rubs chin>?
