or even just a realistic wishlist

i am thinking about the 1.4x TC and the 300mm f/4 because IS sounds very nice..i am not sure which to get first...i am thinking the TC but then again the 300mm comes with a tripod collar that could work on my 70-200 so i don't know

on the wishlist is the 50mm f/1.4 but its not really necessary, and an extreme wide zoom like the tamron 11-18mm

When I get the money I would like following in this order

16-35 mm f/2.8L
400 mm f/5.6L
70-200 mm f/2.8L IS

As for You wishes, which lens do You have to use the TC with? If none then I would suggest You to get the 300 f/4L IS first.

You need a 50mm f1.4! :D

In my "next" list I have a wider fast prime. Like the 30mm f1.4 Sigma, the 28mm f.18 Canon or the (I can hear my VISA card gasping from here) 35mm f1.4 L. (insert sound effect of my tongue slurping in envy)

And maybe a x1.4 TC. otherwise I'm pretty much shopped out already ! :D

That is, until the D40 comes out of course :D

These two assuming upcoming travel plans still work out:

Canon 100-400mm IS L
Sigma 18-50mm 2.8 or Canon 17-40mm L

Possibly, only as a space/weight saver if needed:

350XT

Otherwise:

Sigma 24-70mm 2.8 DG Macro

To buy? Lens wise?

17-40F4L
70-200F2.8L non-IS
85 f1.8
28 F1.8

Eventually?
Sigma 12-24mm f/4.5-5.6 EX
Maybe the 70-200F2.8L IS

Otherwise?
Tripod
Bag

Eventually?
20D
BG-E2
Monopod

Hmmm, if and when the moey comes:

1D MarkIII (not yet release)
EF 24-70 f/2.8 L
EF 70-200 f/2.8 L IS
EF 16-35 f/2.8 L
EF 100-400 f/4.5/5.6 L IS

Body-wise, I would like an 1D MKII

Lens wise, I'm almost done, but in my list there are still a 50 1.4, and a 180 Macro. Eventually a long (500+) prime will end up the story.

My “To Buy” list is long and varied.

I’m in a position now to finally move to “L” glass, but the ones I can afford are not the ones I’d be able to use effectively in low light (nightclub) environments. I’ve had my eye on a 17-40mm L, but my 20-35mm covers almost the same range, and I love the results I’ve gotten with it.

I’ve got a line on a 28mm f/1.8 right now; I’m just waiting on word of the shipping cost to send funds. This will go nicely with my 50mm and 85mm f/1.8’s.

After this, and since I’ll have the “low-light lens” armada taken care of, I’ll probably go for the following:

70-200mm f/4 L

17-40mm L

A nice external flash

And, when I decide I just can’t stand it anymore, the 85mm f/1.2 L. I would then sell the f/1.8…

I want to try some extension tubes, if I like them maybe a dedicated macro lens like the sigma 150. I'll probably invest in a better tripod in the near future but I think my lens list is pretty well rounded :D

No wish list... but my shopping list (though not sure in which order).

1.4x TC
24-70L 2.8
70-200L IS 2.8
and last not least --- Sigma 150mm Macro

Oh, almost forgot... Canon 3D body (if there ever will be one)

BTW... The list above contains the stuff i´ll (hopefully) get in the near future. I´m sure that there are still a few things missing. :o

My next purchases are to be:

17-85mm EF-S IS
70-300mm DO IS

I will be having to sell my current lenses in those ranges in order to help fund it though and may even have to get rid of my beloved Sigma 105mm macro lens but I guess I need to get what suits my current requirements. :(

I also want:

A decent monopod/hiking stick combo
More CF cards
580EX Flash

CorruptedPhotographer
15th of July 2005 (Fri), 15:03
for my to buy list :

Sigma 105mm f/2.9 macro
EF 135 f/2
MP-E65mm f/2.8 1-5X
EF 24-70mm f/2.8L
EF 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS
either TS-E 90mm f/2.8 or TS-E 45mm f/2.8 (depends on how far away I am from a fulll frame sensor)
Ef 180mm f/3.5L macro

A neutral density graduated filter (whenever I have extra cash)

For right now since I'll be doing a wedding in september I'm going to need:

Extra batteries
2 more 1GB cards
Flash bracket and stuff for it

Then later on since right now I have a 28-75mm Tamron I'd like to have the 70-200mm F4. I'm sure they'd be a nice team.

Money is tight at the moment. Still paying off my 350D and lense. And then classes begin so that's about another grand down the hole. UGH!

Oh, let's see... my plan is to buy some of the following before christmas:

Kenko 1.4x TC
Canon 10-22
Canon 85/1.8
Sigma 30/1.4
Canon 50/1.4
Sigma 150/2.8 macro
Might get the Canon 60/2.8 macro as well.

Then it gets a bit fuzzier... maybe a 300/4 IS or a 400/5.6 ? If that damn 400 had IS I'd never get the 300 though... bah!
Maybe I'll go for a Sigma 120-300 instead. Maybe I wont. :P

This is mostly my shopping list.

In the next year
Cannon 100-400 L
Cannon 1.4X TC
Tokina 12-24MM F4.0 Pro

After that
Cannon 85MM 1.8
Cannon/Sigma/Tamron (not sure of the brand yet) 180MM Macro
Cannon 135MM 2.0L

Hopefully I'll be done then.

csnudelman
15th of July 2005 (Fri), 16:02
I'm not sure of the order, but, here goes;

17-40L f/4, I really want the 16-35L f/2.8 but I know I can't afford it. I really wish Canon made a 16 or 17mm prime.

100mm macro f/2.8

50mm f/1.4, my favorite lens in the good 'ol 35mm days was my 90mm and this should get my 20D close to that.

Add those to my 24-70L, 135L and 1.4X TC and everything I shoot should be in there. I also have the 18-55mm 'kit' lens, but would sell it or give it away.

Alexandre Gabriel

My buy list (as soon as I have any budget):

Rebel XT + kit lens
17-85 IS or 17-40 4L (selling kit lens)
70-200 4L (maybe selling my crappy tele)
100 2.8 macro
420 EX

One could do a lot of photography with that set up. May I suggest, especially if you opt for the 17-40L, the 50mm f/1.4 or f/1.8? It can be very useful to have at least one 'fast' lens.

SteveYou dog! Congrats on your purchase. I have used this lens (borrowed from a friend) for live bands, and I can confirm it's quality in these situations. This focal range is great for when I'm pinned in a corner, up front. I can usually get a decent full body shot of a musician about 6' away, or try for a full stage shot. I haven't bought my own yet, but it great to be able to have this lens and my 50mm with no bag. One lens on the camera, one in my cargo pocket. Makes for a nice lean small club kit.

For my first flash, having no flash experience I'm not sure if I should splurge on hte 580EX or if the 420EX would be sufficient.

Up until now, I've had to be a good distance away from the band to get anything close to approaching a "stage shot".

I guess I'll have to get a vest with two cargo pockets, as I'm really not willing to go without the 85mm f/1.8. I use it more than occasionally inside clubs, and I love the results.

Had I waited, I could probably have scored the 28mm for less (I bought it used). They sell for around four bills new, and I paid $300.00 for it. I'm an impatient sort, though.

I'll be sure to post some pictures with it after I get it...

I thought about a vest, having the bulk of the lens, and the camera in front of me sounded a little uncomfortable, not to mention warm. I stick the lens in a little padded bag in the leg pocket of a pair of stylish cargo pants. I think the "padded lens" bag originall help some plastic dinosaurs my son leaves out for me to step on in the middle of the night. Anyway, if can back up, and get a clear shot of the whole band, that will make for some awesome shots. This is a picture that is totally missing from most of my work.
