Some pictures I took of a friends daughter. Advice welcomed. One thing I know I did wrong was forget to change the darn ISO..again. These were shot at ISO 800, how's the noise? Need fixed? I'd also like to remove that strap(undershirt) but not sure the best way to do so??? There's other things I can see...
White balance, I used auto. The pics have a slight blue cast to them. Are you supposed to select WB for the conditions you're shooting in, for example, shade when shooting in the shade? The reason I ask, is when I changed it to shade it got way to warm(yellow), cloudy looked best to me even though it wasn't cloudy out. If I want to select WB manually, would I select the whitest part of the shirt or an area of the shirt that should be white but has a blue cast??? Either way when I try to do it manually it goes way warmer than I remember it being. BTW using DPP for now. Maybe this is too much to post here
Thanks for looking

Beautiful pictures of a lovely young lady... the only very minor issue is color balance.. and if you hadn't showed multiples - it would be a LOT less noticable. Great stuff. Her Parents should love them.

Thanks, what did you do?
How do you get rid of the blue color cast in the shirt? Anyone? As mentioned above, I had trouble figuring out the white balance...

I did levels, added saturation +20, then unsharp mask, and shadows/highlights
(hope I didn't forgot anything)

Are you using CS2? I use PS7 and I don't think I have the shadows/highlights feature??

I have found that the blue cast resulting from "open shade" to be a disaster for many images. I use PhotoImpact10 (although I have PS CS) which has a color cast and separate white balance tool ... under $100 with regular upgrades but little support. Anyway, I did white balance, levels and upped the saturation in about three minutes.
I would really suggest that you go to the Post Processing forum with questions of this nature as there is a huge pool of talented help over there!

Thanks Dwight! I think I will post it over there since I seem to have issues w/ white balance.

In photoshop, you can do selective colors along with color balance. With selective colors you can control one single shade at a time and that will help you pull out some unwanted color. Good to play around with.

Dang... now I have a song stuck in my head.
I saw her sitting in the rain,
raindrops falling on her.
She didnīt seem to care.
She sat there and smiled at me.
And I knew
(I knew, I knew, I knew, I knew)
she could make me happy
(happy, happy).
Flowers in her hair,
Flowers everywhere.
I love the flower girl,
Oh, I donīt know just why.
She simply caught my eye.
I love the flower girl,
She seemed so sweet and kind.
She crept into my mind.
I knew I had to say hello
(hello, hello)
She smiled up at me
She took my hand
And we walked
through the park alone
And I knew
(I knew, I knew, I knew, I knew)
she could make me happy
(happy, happy).
Flowers in her hair,
Flowers everywhere.
I love the flower girl,
Oh, I donīt know just why.
She simply caught my eye.
I love the flower girl,
She seemed so sweet and kind.
She crept into my mind.
Suddenly the sun broke through
(see the sun).
I turned around she was gone
(where did she go).
And all I had left
Was one little flower from her hair.
But I knew
(I knew, I knew, I knew, I knew)
she had made me happy
(happy, happy).
Flowers in her hair,
Flowers everywhere

These are very lovely pictures. The noise wasn't visible on my monitor.
As for shooting at ISO 800, I did that once on a bright sunny day and didn't realize it until I download the pictures. Now when I take pictures, I look at the historgram after the first or second picture and look at the settings.

inskip, these are great images, I esp like the landscape one, including the colour balance, it just works for me :-)
Got any more?

I've worked on these some more. I also have one that looks like it's hand tinted and one w/ the flowers selectively colored. My final crops are square. For the most part, I really like them, but I feel like she kind of blends in w/ the background. I can't seem to get her to POP. At the time I liked the rustic look of the fence...

Lovely photo, particuarly the colour one, that said I just don't B&W with kids in, just takes something away from the spontaneity of the child. Just a personal taste, even though the photos great. Love the colour though.

Not quite sure what the aim of that comment is. His signature does say "Critiques and edits welcome" I'm confused.

Jim, it's still an excellent reminder ... and you didn't single me out or make an issue ... I expect I might have done it unthinkingly even if his OK wasn't there. And now I will go out and add that to my .sig, Thanks! :-)

Well, see, you need a nice feminine avatar. And notice my new .sig steals from yours! :-)
