So while we were out holidaying in the mountains I sneaked a couple of shots of my son. He hates to be photographed. I am still trying to perfect my ability to shoot candid portraits. Let me know what you think and how I can improve - really... I want to hear some bad stuff... thanks (not about my son though ;) ). I am working on getting the red under control without making him look pale. Cheers All!

exposure is spot on, interesting composition, excellent candid expression and nice bokeh. but since you asked for "bad stuff"... i was somewhat distracted by the grey swoosh (for the lack of words to describe it) at the lower left hand corner.

I'm bothered by his face being cut off. That's the only thing really bugging me.

It looks like a hat that was pretty much blurred out and that effect occurs generally if something is in the way.

I agree with Rent on the gray swoosh on the bottom left hand corner. As for the red, it looks good to me, but then again it can also be my monitor.

the swoosh is indeed a hat is out of focus due to DOF in the forground. This copy has been red-corrected and no one said he looked pale yet so that is a goot thing. I'll have to sleep on this one and see if the off centeredness is a reall problem and if I should try to crop it to get rid of the swoosh. This is a 100% shot - no cropping yet at all.
Thanks all for your feedback.

The face crop doesn't bother me at all, but to balance it out you might consider cropping off the empty space above the hat. Even cropping a bit of hat would be okay, as that might help even out the face cropping.
Somehow that left shoulder fading out the way it does looks really fake. For me it's distracting since I'm wondering why you would have done it (as in, done it as post processing in photoshop).

MCB - thanks for the feedback. The fading is not done in PS... it is an out of focus object in the foreground. The image as shown is cropped and so I will spend some time seeing if I can come up with some options perhaps tomorrow. Thanks again for looking and commenting. Cheers.

Agree with MCB if you crop the top in addition to the cropping on the right, it works better. Nice shot!
