Hi

I have a problem with my G5 where I can view menus and previously taken photos on the lcd, however I am getting no feed from the lens in any mode.

Does anyone know what this could be? Could something have worked loose and be blocking the lens

Any help would be much appreciated

Thanks!!

Are you sure you tried pressing the display button?

The display button is what I originally thought would be the issue but it is not this.

My problem is (was) that I sold this camera on ebay and sent it in full working order, only to have the buyer come back saying it has the above fault. I could not believe it and asked for a photo as evidence I got a grainy shot back of just the lcd showing some turquoise bars on it. I guessed it had been dropped in transit and that something had come loose, hence my post. I was puzzled though as the lcd showed the wrong date, whereas my g5 was set to the correct time and date.

Looking at the buyers previous transactions I now see that he has bought a broken g5 from ebay the other week which was sold with the very same problem (ie can not see live images). It is now very clear to me that he is attempting to get me to refund on my camera and then he plans on sending me back the broken camera in return. He then ends up paying peanuts for a working g5. It turns out looking into it that he has bought loads of broken cameras so I guess this trick is working for him.

So be aware if you ever sell through ebay. I will now always check buyers previous transactions.

Thanks for your time, impressed by the good info you can get from this site

Please let us know his eBay id so we don't bid on him. Please report this to eBay as well. I hope you didn't refund his money.

That's pretty interesting. Let us know how it turns out.

Wow! I was just thinking that when I saw a broken G5 on eBay, if people would buy them and sell them as working and the claim the post office wrecked it. But that's a new angle, buying a broken one, then buying a working one and then scamming the seller. That is very interesting. I sure hope there are not too many of these guys.

Yes please post his eBay ID, so I can both block him and report him to eBay to a friend I know.

From now on, now that I know this, I will be adding some sort of mark to camera, taking a picture of the mark for my protection. It will have to be somewhere that can not be seen but not removed like maybe a special color of paint on the top of the tripod screw in. So that if I take a refund, which I don't do, but if I do then if it doesn't have a mark there will be no refund.

How about just recording the serial number?

Yeah forgot about that. But I would maybe sitll mark it, in the envent at there is a serial number switch.

I have the same problem, but then with my own camera.
Getting it fixed costs too much compared to a new camera...
I think it has something to do with the ccd chip (read that)

Since i'm a girl and not really technical...could somebody please explain to me step-by-step how to open the camera up and repair it. :) (close the connector to the ccd-chip)
