I may get evicted!!
Last Sat. I had two models over to my apartment complex. We used a fellow photogs Garage in the complex.
The two sexy models walking to the garage got someones attention.
Then they peeked through gaps in the garage walls during the shoot with the door down. We thought we had total privacy.
It was a implied shoot so the girls did spend some time in their birthday suits. They did some clothing changes in the garage.
Anyway the landlord got more than one phone call!! She is pissed and is looking for grounds to evict us.
I will fight it if of course.... But damn!

So you're saying that your and your models privacy was invaded by some peeping tom's? I'd contact the police and request they protect society from these sexual predators.

review your lease very well. The snoopers were invading your privacy by peeking thru cracks; just like if they had peeked thru your window blinds... You might also want to consult an attorney or even the local housing council.

I think I would also mention a law suit as well. Peeping in an arrestable offence, but she wants do do nothing about that? I think I might put the ball in her court by demanding that she do something with all the peeping toms they have.

you can be sure that if you had peeped in on some girls in the garage they'd have you arrested!

Lack of grounds I think...she hates that I did it but it really does not voilate any rules or rental laws. She knows I would fight the eviction..I would have to. I think the property owner realized it did not make sense to pursue it. In light of that fact I had already agreed to not do it again, it really made sense to stand down.
But to me the whole thing is a lesson in how ugly people really are. Conclusions were reached and derogatory comments made about my models. Both fine young ladys that work hard and lead honorable lives.
One is looking at joining the Marine Corps. She is far more welcome in my home than judgemental church ladys.
Busy bodies, haters, bitter lives. Sad all the way around.
My desire to photograph beautiful young people in the nude has not been diminished at all.

I would say that unless it specifically states you can't photograph nude women on your lease, you shouldn't have told her that at all! Some leases mention car maintenance because the mgr doesn't want to deal with a junkyard of non-working cars on the property that would cost hundreds to get rid of...
I know it's a stretch, but it's akin to telling you not to have sex in your car if it was parked in the same garage. wait- that might just be fantasy talking :)

Photography is NOT a crime!
I would write her a letter, explaning that Photography is part of your life. Get her to understand that you were quiet about it all, and descrete as not to offend any other tennents...
I would also explane that your privacy was totaly breeched, and asked how she would feel if other tennents watched her bath!

Don't you live in a free country?
I wouldn't feel obligated to keep any such promise made not to do it again.
Prudes need to stick their heads in a big bucket of sand. No one has the right to tell other people how to live their lives.

No language in your rental contract prohibiting a home-based business, correct?

The garage has implied privacy for you. The only way for it to be illegal is if you guys were in plain view, but if they bystanders had to go out of their way to see, it was not plain view. Fight it. Good luck.

For this situation, I would call it "personal purposes" rather than a business :D

Only the OP knows what the ultimate use is but beyond any skin showing that may have offended the peeper, it's possible that the property owner assumed the OP is running a photography business on the premises which might be prohibited.
The fact that there was nudity reported could conceivably make the property owner just that much more sensitive about the situation.
I'm firmly in the OPs camp here but sometimes discussing such situations from multiple angles can lead to a "Hmmm... Hadn't thought of that" moment.

Exactly right.... I am old enough be able to take a step back and pick my battles. The outcome here is ok. Not perfect but ok

That's like saying you did something wrong. Even if you decided to not do it again, I would not have given anyone the pleasure of saying you wouldn't.
Did the photog that let you use the garage get talked to? Yeah, you supplied the models and photographed them, but they were not nude in "your" garage.

You know guys all these points your making are good ones.
Trust me none of this was lost on me. I went as far to as to make a first contact with the county mediator that deals with this kind of thing.
I have to no doubt that after a nasty fight I would have won.
But I value my Apartment. Its one of the best in the entire city. The landlord lady other than being a church Lady...is a great lanlord. Keeps the place up really well and keeps the low lifes out of our buildings.
The older I get the less I value being right and being full of pride.
All I had to do to resolve this is say I was sorry and not do it again. That cost me nothing and it is resolved.
I bet if we did a pole and asked if POTN members agreed with my actions and sorted by age it would be very telling.

Medium size town, apartment complex but a spread out one with pre-great depression era buildings. Pretty tight knit group tenants. This building is filled with nonething but good tentants that are vetted by years of renting at other property that landlord owns. You don't just get in. Further more there are years that go by with out openings. My appartment is near perfect. Huge, Gas appliances and heat. Attatched garage, washer and dryer hook ups, Quiet, stays cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Bedroom shares no walls or roof with other renters.
I value this place.

You could consider showing some of the more tasteful photos to her. Perhaps if she finds out you are not making pornography she will lighten up. Then again sometimes it is better to just let things fade away. Good luck

I do tend to dismiss people that are superstitious. But in this case the term Church lady refers to busy body holier than thou judgmental people. Its a reference to the all to real Dana Carvey skit from the Saturday Night live TV show. Pictures have already appeared in this thread of her....

I think that violating other people's privacy is bad. I think that abusing authority by attempting to have somebody evicted because you disagree with what they were doing behind closed doors is bad. And I definitely think that religion should never be used as a justification for your own "bad" inclinations.
But mostly I think that people who are so humorless that they cannot understand satire are condemned to a very bleak existence.

would report it to the police still - if she had multipel complaints from others that means some one told some one else and who knows - maybe even used a cell phone camera to grap some picks of there own.
I think the responsibel think to do here is protect your models and report it and let the police fond out from your land lord who it was - do the girls know this happened ?
How would you react if some one was spying on you ??

There definitely needs to be a police report filed, It seem that there was indede criminal activity and that your landlord was a conspirator after the fact. Now I am not of the opinion that there needs to be any prosicution considering that the mater was dropped, however the guilty should be identifinociented and there actions known to the police should there be other incidents of peeking toms (or other sexual crimes) in the area.

Actually if Anybody wants to share a space in the Gilroy-Salinas-Monterey Area I need some studio space. In return you can take advantage of of my light and backdrops. Also from time to time double up and take some shots of my models. But mostly you will get contacts for NON-flake nude models. Pm ME!

Just ran across this thread..... Insane.. Ask your LL if you are prohibited from painting pictures of Nudes, or creating a nude figure out of clay...
People just have too much time on their hands......

All this sounds like ....
A peeping Mom
Invasion of privacy
A door malfunction
I'm not sure I would have agreed not to do it again. I would have agreed to cover the door better. You are paying for the use of the property and as long as it's legal activities. So was it legal? Was this TF* or commercial activities? Comercial use would get you legally.
Renters have too many rights. It's why I'm not a landlord anymore.

I would agree that discretion is the better part of valor in your case. Not to mention that your landlord has probably realized that you are a source of some downright juicy gossup. She is most likely now the center of attention at Chirch functions. I think you will find yourself well taken care of.

I would make sure the police have it on report, but elect not to have them pursue the matter. This may help protect you if she backed off knowing she doesn't have a leg to stand on, but is still irate and looking to evict you later on down the road. Having an official report that this was a pepping tom incident, and not you shooting in the public's view. All you really want in the report is that it happened, and that the person watching needed to be right up against the door just as if they were looking thru some cracks in window blinds. That would go a long way to establish that you had a reasonable expectation of privacy where you were based on the report, and they were in the wrong not you. Having it on record also will show you felt violated enough to call the police, which helps show the expectation of privacy.
