I want to get into more closeup photography of flowers and all types of subjects..
I have an xsi...
contemplating this choice...I know the obvious as the 135 will rock but will be happy with macro type or do i get the sigma and make the 135 purchase down the road.
already own the 70-200 2.8, 50 1.8, 18-55 kit and tokina 12-24.

Consider the 100L. It is a very good lens.

If your doing macro , I'd go with the Sigma150mm or the Canon 100mm macro. I like the Sigma better for the extra working distance for shooting bugs . It also comes with the lens hood , tripod collar and better warranty then the Canon macro.

my 135l with full set of kenko tubes gets me close, but not 100mm macro close. i used a hacked 35-80mm for macro of static objects, it gets to almost 2:1 mag which is greater than the 100 macro, but the working distance sucks.

I have the Sigma 150 on a FF. This is one wickedly sharp lens, btw. I like the working distance also. Not sure if I would use one on a crop.

It's great on a crop and also handles a 1.4 teleconverter very well.
