Sometime stuff all happend at once! I had 3 auctions running, and won all 3 !
In order :
+ 200mm f2.8 L (mark I, with integrated hood) in perfect order (£249)
+ Carl Zeis Jena Sonnar 135mm f3.5 MC M42 (18.69 wheee)
+ M42 to EOS mount (£12)
And yesterday for a laught I got a Carl Zeis Tessar 50mm f2.8 to use as paperweight (probably) for the scary price of.... £2.70 !
Can't wait the 200! I didn't think I'd win that one, a new one (with external hood) is much more expensive (more than twice) and this one appears to be mint, with the hardcase and all (wish canon still made hard cases for expensive lens!

Don't kid yourself about the CZ Jena 135 Sonnar........I have this lens and it is very sharp but you better have a good eye or a large viewfinder because everything is manual. If you get the focus spot on it rivals many of my L lenses for optic quality...........

I'll get a split prism viewfinder, always liked these in old SLR anyway. And anyway I've got even more useless piece of kit that don't look as good as piece of good 'ol'tech :D

Okay, I'll look stupid, but I would love to have a different focus screen on my 20D (or 300D for that matter). On my film cameras (pentax MX, ME super) you can change the focus screens but i thought you couldn't do that on a 20D (or 300D or 350D). I would love a split prism and even a ground ring focus aid. How is this done?

Buze,
congratulations :D
Now if you might translate that strange GBP into some civilized currency like USD or EUR so we know how much you really paid :p
... so you paid USD/EUR 360 for the 200/2.8 ... quite a steal to me
Hope the lens is good.
Best regards,
Andy

ooooooo, thanks for the link! Missed that one. The whole thing does not give me a warm fuzzy feeling compared to the flip-down focus screens on my film SLR but it doesn't look too bad either. I may put down my $75 and try it out. One poster said it looked like the split-ring/microprism/ground glass screen on a k1000. I loved my K1000 back in 1979 so that would be just fine. A real manual focusing system could stop 99% of the whining on this forum about whether this lens or that was autofocusing properly.

Gee I hope so, it looked good on "paper" (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7529701869) it should arrive this week, we'll see. I like the Mark I tho, I think it's better to have a small hood on, than a large one you never put on! And it has a proper "case" not a "pouch" :D
And yeah I was very surprised to get it, I had put a snipe "just in case" and literaly forgot about it!

So, these Carl Zeis Jena Sonnar jobbies ... can you stick an adaptor on any of them and it will work MF only with an EF? I have read the sticky BTW!

Yeah, you also have to set the apperture manualy. But I'm always in Av anyway so.. I'll have to see how usable the combo is, but from the (few) reports they seem to give excellent results, once one makes the efforts to put them to work.
Seems the "sure bet" are the M42 mounts. The adaptor is tiny, and seems very well made.

Then read it again
You obviously overread the part where it says you can use an M42-EOS adapter to just mount them on your Canon EOS camera
AV mode works nicely with that setup, the only interesting thing is that aperture reads f/1.0 in the EXIF information (no need to spend a lot of money on the 50/1.0 L for bragging rights  )
Best regards,
Andy

Update: as I clicked "post" the doorbell rang, and the 200mm arrived! Now I'm REALLY impressed, since it came from honk-kong and was posted Friday!
And I'm REALLY impressed with what I snapped up, it must be the best bargain I ever did on eBay! The lens is *mint* and had a UV filter on. The original Canon lens Box is amazing, it's all leather with red coating inside, plenty of room.
The lens has no dust or anything in. Put the lens on, click click, excellent AF, seems even faster than the 135 I have. Viewfinder is very bright, first time I look in a 200 f2.8 tho :D
I'm going to put it thru some testing shots now. Damn, can't get any work done in these conditions :D

Excellent ... and no Duty/VAT either by the sounds of it :D
Be good to see a shot or two AND of the Carl Zeis Jena Sonnar
Andy, I think I did miss that bit when I first read the sticky a few weeks ago. I mshould have read it again of course! Hmmm ... interesting possibilities.
