Hi all,

I want to use my G9 with EOS Utility to make really long time lapse videos so I did what everyone would. Install EOS Utility on my mac.
First I installed the EOS Utility that came with my Canon 7D. I hooked up my G9 and turned it on. A green LED next to the viewfinder started blinking green a few time and then it stops. The green LED next to the mode dial is constant green indicating that it's on.
Nothing happens in EOS Utility :S I can't hit the remote shooting button cause it's still grayed out.
I hooked up my 7D an it's working flawlessly. Next thing I did is look in the G9 menu. Maybe I had to turn on some PC mode option but I didn't find anything. Getting frustrated at this point. Tried another USB cable with the G9 with no luck.
At this point I grabbed my G9 box and installed the EOS Utility that came with the G9. Again no luck. Still not working. Rebooted the whole system (Mac) and tried again. No luck :( again. Next thing I did was deleting the entire Canon utility folder and emptied the trashcan. Installed the EOS Utility that came with the G9 again. Now only the EOS Utility without anything else. Right after install completed I've rebooted the system and tried again. Still no luck. When I connect the camera it still won't work.

Does anyone have a clue on what's going on here? Did I mis some kind of option on the camera?
I desperately need help. I'm going to a big event the day after tomorrow and I need to make a really long time lapse with the G9. THe build in time lapse is not sufficient enough.

My G9 does not work with EOS utility on my iMac either. It's probably because the G9 is a Powershot camera, not an EOS camera and does not have the internal software to support the EOS Utility functions.

G9 shipped with a different software package than the EOS cameras. Use the software that came with the camera, mine works fine.

From what I have gathered, EOS Utility is not designed to work with the G9.

I have the same problem. I got a new iMac in November, and noticed I could not download images from the camera using the usual USB connection and the Canon software. It works fine with my older A620, but not the G9. I emailed Canon about it at the time, and they said it was an issue with the Canon software not updated for OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard). They said they would be providing an update when it becomes available.

I noticed an update was available recently, so I downloaded and installed it. It still does not allow me to download photos vis USB with the Canon software (I've been using the Image Capture software on the iMac with no problems to do that). I also tried the Remote Capture feature, and it is grayed out as someone said. Can't get there from here.

I suggest you send Canon an email about the problem, and see what they say. They were pretty responsive last fall, so try that approach. I never really use the Remote Capture anymore, so no interest in fixing it now. I'm fine using the Image Capture software to download, so no interest in fixing that now. I did want to use the RAW Image Task software to process my RAW images, and that does work, so no issues for me.

The G9 does have a part of the EOS software, but it is not working on Snow Leopard. That appears to be the issue. I just ordered a G11, so I assume that will work as advertised, since no one has been complaining about it.

Yeah, on March 5, 2010, Canon updated the ImageBrowser software to work with OS 10.6. The software is here, ImageBrowser 6.5.0a. It works with my G9 and my iMac running OS 10.6.3.

I just went back to the download page and re-read the instructions and notices. This part is what is causing my/our issues;

"4. The application version for downloading images (CameraWindow DC) has been changed.
If users were using either CameraWindow 6.x or CameraWindow DC 7.x to download images from compact digital cameras, or CameraWindow 6.x to download images from digital video cameras with previous ImageBrowser versions, some functions will no longer be availble after the application is updated. (*) Also, after the version update, images will be saved to the default folder of CameraWindow DC 8.1 instead.
*: Printing and direct transfer can no longer be carried out. (Images already downloaded can be printed out from ImageBrowser. Also, remote shooting using RemoteCaputure Task (for models that support RemoteCaputure Task) is no longer available."

I guess this is how Canon tells folks with older cameras (G9) that full support is beginning to disappear. :-(

I haven't got it to work after trying everything. I even installed windows on my mac to see if it would work in windows. Without success of course.

I'm now using PSremote through bootcamp to make time lapse stuff with my G9.
