Having taken up photography again after a number of years and dusted down my G5, I wondered if this camera is good enough these days to take photos for stock sites, as times move on.

Any advice would be most welcome

Thanks

It really depends what the end use is going to be. If you're going for web, you'll be okay.

If you expect to be paid for your shots, start looking for a better camera. Maybe a SLR would be more beneficial?

No way I would give up my G5. In fact, the two highest awards (a 1st place and a best of show) I have received were taken with it.

The G5 is a very capable camera - in my opinion it is worth having for the F2 lens alone. I replaced mine with a G9, but I still think the G5 with that lens had better image quality. My G5 took a heavy fall and died on me. Marketting people will try and sell cameras with more and more megapixels, but at the end of the day any camera is only as good as it's lens and the G5's lens will take some beating. I know own a G9 and a 50D but my best pictures were taken with the G5.

I'm not much of a zoom guy. I do feel, however, that 3x is the practical limit for a zoom. maybe-maybe 4x under some conditions. Beyond that there is just too much compromising needed for my taste. The aperture range of the G5 is f/2-f/3, how many of the newer G series cameras can come close to that? 5MP on a sensor that size is just fine.

Well this is coming from a guy who's other camera is the 1D classic (only 4MP) but I would gladly shoot with a G5 and wouldn't hesitate to use it for potentially memorable photographs. I would sacrifice resolution for a faster lens any day of the week. I've thought about buying one,,, but I love my G9 so much I don't really need two G's.
