hi to all im new to the forum and pretty much new to the game. have had an interest in photography for a long time but have only had my eos 500d for about 5 months (my first and only cam atm) a friend asked me to take some pics at her wedding and it was a blast. would like to show a couple of them and hopefully get some opinions :)

In #1 you could have used some fill flash, and keep an eye on your backgrounds. #2 is a little glowy and warmish for me personally, but I am sure they will love it.

The first looks like a snapshot, sorry, exposure is wonky, the composition is eh. The second is better, but still doesn't really tell us anything. What are they looking at? I agree it's too warm and has a weird glowy feel to it.

No:2 should have been zoomed out a little, you should see what's in front of them and don't cut of people's heads and joints.
In the picture the old lady has the best exposure (dark clothes+sunshine), all that white is screwing with the camera metering system. What did you use i use center weighted exposure mostly when i take pictures or point measurement when shooting birds. But exposure might not be right for all persons who do you exposefor the bride or the others?
You should keep a list of priorities of whats important in your head or on a list so you don't forget.
What lenses do you have the EXIF showed the 18-55 and 55-250 kit lenses, a nifty fifty is perfect for weddings.

What filter do you apply to get that soft glow look? I did a wedding on the weekend but I am unsure of the technique / filter to do that. Your shots look ok to me.

these are the only lenses i have, got them with the 500d, seeing I've only had them for about 5 months i haven't looked at getting any others just yet have thought about getting the canon close up macro lens attach but still learning on whats best to buy etc. the effect i done with ps, this is how the couple wanted the pic to be edited they want it warm and soft and its one of their fav's so that was my goal. i didn't have the best advantage as i was working around the photographer that they had payed who unfortunately didn't get one good shot and the couple ended up being very unhappy with her work so in this case i saved the day for them

I agree about needing fill flash on the first picture. The 2nd one is better

Welcome to the forum, and you still got a long way to go. Stick around, look at the work here and learn some more.

I feel both images are soft but I like the angles and white balance of both

2nd is too warm 4me... I would drop saturation a bit as well and add some glow... or if you do like B&W photography do the natural black and white with a little amount of grain :) apart of that nice capture

Not sure if it's your post processing, but I'm not a huge fan of soft focus. Try shooting wide open when doing shots like #1. No one wants to see houses that in focus with a shot like that.

People don't mind seeing other buildings as much as you'd think. Cars, signs, telephone poles, and random people with stupid expressions are a different story. I'm pretty sure the first one is already wide open anyway. It looks about right to me. You can see where she's at and she's completely in focus.
At weddings, there's a lot of reportage shooting that really only appeals to the couple as it's a record of their day. Not everything is "OMG! WOW OOO AHHH" for the forum.

Agree that focus is spot on, but seeing all that stuff in the background takes away from the shot IMO. I'd much rather see this shot cropped closer.
