These are taken with the camera's built in flash only as I have yet to own a strobe but I'm working on it!

Great shots! I'm not a diver, but to my untrained eye they look very good. The built in flash appears to be doing a good job, but I don't know what using more expensive options would provide.

looking good, makes me wonder what a strobe would gain in image quality. Like Dennis said, to an amateur eye the images look really good, maybe if you were to go pixel peeping you would see the differnce.

nice!!! what housing?

Strobe would not improve on pixel quality. What it does is gives you better colour and less back scatter. With more strobe power, you can reduce the ambient lighting thereby reducing the amount of blue in your pictures. These are taken with the Canon OEM housing.

Well done mate!

Good shots Ronald! Looks like a patient octopus too. You got good color up close. I usually find that using too much flash heats the interior of the housing and overwhelms the desiccant packs I have in there, leaving me with a bit of fog. Didn't happen this time on Bonaire though.

That was the octopus permanent home. It swim away after my first series of shots but came back to the same place after for me to take some more pictures! :)

I think humidity is also a big factor in housing fog, I did an almost 2 hour dive and the housing never fog up without the use of any desiccant. I'll be bringing some though just in case for my upcoming trip to Sipadan.

I would struggle doing 2 hours with 220 bar at anything more than 10 meters. The other strange thing is that my bottom time tends to cut by a a quarter when I have a camera with me over when I don't have one. ;-)

It is indeed less than 10 meters. I came up with 60 plus bar. Would have stayed longer but towards the end the cold was getting into me. :(

Nicely done. Am thinking of getting the g11 and the OEM housing just for this exact same reason. Is there an external strobe you can actually use with this?

With the OEM housing, you can use any external strobe that uses slave activation or the fibre optic connection stuck to the external of the housing. Am thinking of the Inon S2000 for its S-TTL capabilities.

Thanks! Will look into this.

I was considering similar. You seem to have done an excellent job. The water must have been clear as there is very little back scatter in any of the shots.

On the contrary as this picture taken on the same dive under natural lighting shows.

Very nice... I have been slowly getting around to picking up a used G10 and underwater housing for this summer's snorkeling season in the great lakes. I like to snorkel ship wrecks and so far have only taken pictures with my GoPro Hero camera (not the HD version) ...

I think the G series cameras seem like the way to go.

got a pic of the housing? Can it take EXT strobe?

Way to get close and get the most out of your system! Well done :)

The G series does really well in the Canon housing underwater with no extras.

But you know you want external strobes ;)

@promocop Yes, you can add an external strobe - see post #12 ;)

Thank you so much for sharing these. I love seeing the underwater pictures that the G11 is capable of. Actually I love seeing ALL the pictures the G11 is capable of, but since one of my prerequisites for having purchased the G11 was it had to have an underwater housing available, this gives me hope I can get some good shots next time I go snorkeling.

Definitely able to do what you intended. Just remember the basics of underwater photography and you should be fine. Light is everything in underwater photography andif you think you are close, get closer. Shot up instead of down, and G11 should be able to handle the rest pretty well. :D

Neat shots!

I wish I could do some underwater shots or better yet strobe underwater too.

Here are my first underwater shots with my new G11. I love this camera. I finally found a point and shoot that I can get behind! I got the camera the day I shot so I know it much better now and I'm excited to go out and shoot again.
I lit these from above with two 500 watt incandescent bulbs.
