Can't decide which I like better. See processing details. This is Eddie Fierce.
Eddie is fierce when he plays. Sometimes he even hisses at his toys. You can see he's mad here because the top of his eyes are kind of flat. If he had eyebrows they'd be pointing down. His chin being down helps too.
I finally got to shoot him when he's playing with his beloved mouse. But I had my flash on manual instead of automatic and this was underexposed by about 2-3 stops. I was mad. But shooting RAW rescued the photo.
Since it looked a little noisy even though I did some reduction, I'd thought I'd make the photo look even rougher.
So in Gimp I duplicated the background layer twice. The middle layer is black and white. The top layer is Soft Light mode. By mixing the opacity of the layers you get sort of a desaturated look that I've read is called the "Hollywood look". Of course this is usually used on people. I boosted the black and did some burning around the edges. The process makes his eyes look darker and they match the mouse.
Canon XSi, Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 macro, Canon 430 EX II bounced off ceiling behind and slightly to the right.
2nd picture:
With this one I saturated colors, moved his eyelids down to make him look even madder, oversharpened his eyes and then made them darker and did some dodging and burning. I like how his eyes turned out here. Both at Flickr.
