I entered a photography contest a couple months ago with probably too much confidence. Today I checked and saw the winners and I, was not one of them. This is the Jostens photography contest for high school and they apparently had 8,000 entries, and 103 were picked.
That being said, I do not get WHY the winners were picked. I feel like with 8,000 entries that the chosen winners would be a lot more spectacular than what was shown. You can view the winners here http://www.jostens.com/yearbook/show_contest.asp
Anyways, what is most frustrating about this is that photography isn't a class I'm taking, it's not something I just "do." It's something I love and have invested a lot of time into solely for the joy of it. I guess what's concerning is that I can't get past the fact that I have invested a lot into something and it doesn't show.
Any advice on how to go about this would be great. I have learned everything I know on my own time, and have the desire to learn and make the best pictures I can...I guess I'm just worried that I simply don't "have it."
Cheers!
Erik
