Forward moving question

I have taken shots at subjects moving straight at me (some very slow) and even at 1/1000 of a second I get blur. Is this common with this kind of shot, or am I doing something wrong? Something moving sideways is fine. I am using a 20D.

Using AF or MF? If AF you'll probably have to use sports/continuous autofocus mode to maintain focus. If MF you need to keep adjusting the focus which may be hard to do if moving slowly at you.
