£32 for a step up adaptor ring - are they serious?

Canon 67c (http://www.warehouseexpress.com/buy-canon-macrolite-adapter-67-for-ef-100mm-f-2-8l-macro-is-usm/p1033253)

By putting the name Canon on it, you elevate a small piece of aluminum or whatever it is to it's worth it's weight in gold!

Would a 67 to 58mm stepdown ring work ?

No because the MT-24 doesnt screw into a filter threading, but rather that macrolite adaptor give a proprietary lip that protrudes out that the MT-24 attaches to.

I was assuming you could then use the 58mm macrolite adapter it comes with ?

It doesnt come with one. The 100L uses the Canon MacroLite 67 which you have to buy separately for around $40. LINK (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/656030-REG/Canon_3563B001_67_Macrolite_Adapter.html)

It is also not a 58mm filter size, but rather a 67mm.

I think the price of the adapter sucks for what it is

I made my own, using a 67mm - 58mm stepdown ring, as mentioned earlier
then I screwed an old 58mm UV filter ring (minus glass) & an "A" series cokin adapter into it,
this has a nice groove that the locking pins on the MT24 can locate into, works with the MR14 as well

yeah...ridiculously pricey. I had to buy one for my Sigma 150 too...macrolite 72C.

Got mine from ebay. Not genuine and the fitting is a bit loose. After snapping the adapter on, it could still rotate a bit :(

I just ordered one for my flash ( MR-14EX ) from B&H.

Pricey?

Sure, but I realize Canon doesn't sell a lot of these flash units as compared to others and probably even less of the adapter rings.

I've done a search, the cheapest I came across is at Amazon USA:
http://www.amazon.com/Canon-Macrolite-Adapter-67/dp/B002O3UOUW

$37.02 (equivalent to approx £22.00) - factor in the postage and it is about the same price.

Seems as though this is the going rate! - As others have pointed out, it is a rather specialist (non-commercial) item which is keeping the price high.

There may be cheaper alternatives out there, just beware of the quality of the threading.

Yea Amazon is where I bought the one I had from. Overpriced indeed, but I wouldnt trust anything other than the official Canon version personally.

Am wondering, since I already bought the 72mm adapter, if there is any reason a 67-72mm step-up ring wouldn't work (i.e., 67mm step-up adapter on the lens, the step-up adapter to the 72 adapter, to my MT-24EX)?

Given the focal length is 100mm on the "L", wouldn't think vignetting would be any problem.

Anyone agree / diagree / have a PoV to share?

Thnx

Yea usually the stepup rings are very thin and keep the filter as close to the lens as possible, I think you should be fine doing it that way, its just going to look a little funny because your lens will have a flare out from the step ring at the end.
