Hi I recently upgraded my livebooks account from my Livebooks.EDU site. Put a lot of time into it and would really like to hear what you guys have to say about it. Any comments or suggestions would be much appreciated:)

Why are so many photogs wed to flash? It's proprietary, it fails to work nicely on small netbook computers, it won't work at all with smart phones when the flash frame is hardcoded to one large size.
I always thought a successful web site was one that catered to widest audience possible. Locking the whole navigation and everything else into a flash box, does not accomplish this at all and should be a choice a visitor gets rather than being forced (especially on the index page). I'm not even sure how well web crawlers can catalogue flash based sites? This impacts search engines.
Cheers,
Rene

Jimmy,
Looks good, can you play with the Flash to speed up the drop down menus? It may just be my PC here at work I'm on, but they are a little slow to drop for me...wondered if you could find out how to edit the flash/action script to speed them up a wee bit, not much, just a wee bit? I was looking at Livebooks today, which is what led me to your thread there, I did a search on here for Livebooks, I like what they do, but I don't like how they charge you $100 more if you don't go with them as a host. And I don't like that they don't provide a blog template to go along with your website/portfolio template, that bites.
rbil,
I don't think that we are "wed" to flash, as much as we are wed to using templates, not being professional web designers and HTML/CSS/XHTML experts, we have to rely on a fast simple way to get a web site up and a lot of the time its using these companies that offer templates, and so we are held to what they offer. Jimmy chose LiveBooks who uses Flash for a lot of their sites. Its a great medium for displaying photos in a catchy user experience, if/when done right by the flash designer...which again, is limited from our point of view by who we choose to go with and what template is chosen.
