Travelling round world with G1

Does anyone have experience of travelling with G1 or digicam without a computer and how to store images during the trip? Presumably I take the compactflash card to a photolab and get them to burn images onto a CD. But don't know if this is a good idea - can cards get damaged?

I have two compactflash cards, 80 and 256.
