First off, this is an entirely different issue than the "IS switch" being turned off.. I have the handy dandy Armstrong band around the lens and it seems to keep it on perfect position

I'm wondering if anyone else feels like there are times when the is is switched to on, but not engaged (or working) I know it is less noticeable than the past generations of IS but still I feel like i can tell when it is running,... and 1/2 the time I would bet it isn't

any way, just thought i'd throw it out to the fellow potn'ers to see if others have had this concern

I constantly read about this concern, including the accidental switching on/off and all that. I, personally, have never had any of those issues. I know when it's and when it's off. I know where the switch is. I can feel it in the lens when it turns on (I hand-hold 99.8% of the time).

You use a LiveStrong band to keep from hitting the on/off switch? I love it! If you can't wear it on the wrist then strap it on the camera! :)

GO LANCE!

That is the strange thing.. I am always wondering if my AF point @ * has anything to do with it, becaues I am 100% positive that the switch isnt getting pushed

For some reason I am constantly hitting the AF switch and shutting it off. It happens a lot as I am resting the camera. Aggravates me! I hold the camera back up to my eye, attempt to focus and nothing.

Only times my buttons get switched are when I'm taking it apart and putting it in the bag, it might catch against something, but with your hands, generally they aren't in the area.

That has absolutely nothing to do with lens IS. The camera cannot affect the lens IS settings. I use * all the time for AF when using AI Servo.

I know when IS has turned on by a small click and a small vibration.

It's not that noticeable if you use your lens a lot. It's like anything, you start not to notice it if its normal.

I probably wouldn't notice at a wedding either, but i've used it in quiet places quite a few times.

Mine humms regularly. If I'm paying attention and I don't hear the humm, I've usually inadvertently turned it off again.
