Just realized that I had posted this in the wrong area. D'oh!
So..reposting in what I hope is now the proper area. Apologies. :o
Okay, this is my first post here, but I've been lurking for awhile, getting my nerve up.
I've been working on beefing up my kitty portfolio..and the main problem I keep running into is this. Cats just don't DO much.
This is not to rip on cats. I like them. I'm not a cat person though, I've had them in the past..and I loved them dearly. But dogs are my thing. So I know what's cute/unusual/quirky/fun/special about a dog when I look at them. I read their emotions very well, so when I look at a photo of a dog, I know exactly how they're feeling, and they'll usually run the gamut for me within the hour.
Cats..not so much. I have eyes, so I can obviously see what's cute. But what are cat owners REALLY wanting out of this? Are photos of the cat sitting there looking at the camera adequate, or should I be aiming higher to inspire action shots?
And..any other feline related tips are completely welcome! Thanks in advance!

Try googling "cute cat pics". There are many, many great cat shots out there: Cats with mice, chicks, teddy bears, in brandy glasses, cartons, wearing silly hats .......

The list goes on. It shouldn't be difficult to find interesting ways of portraying them.

You're right. I suppose it's just my fear of making them angry that stops me from going too far out from the basics, especially if it's not even really important to their owner to get those more interesting shots.
Which I guess, in a nutshell, was what I was curious about.
Thanks for the advice:)

Cats don't do much but you can get their personality in the shot if you do it right, at least the owner will see it :)

One trick for cats... if you want them rolling around and acting silly, rub a small dab of icy hot in the area, it's just like cat nip to them but it doesn't leave yoru background all messy.

Mess can be removed PP, so do try catnip. Or a bug :). Or using a mirror to move as bright spot around on a wall. Open a can of their favorite food, catch them first stretching, then jumping off their couch, sauntering to the dish... better yet, follow them as the hunt outdoors (or is it a city cat?). Cats DO live, it's just sporadic.
