These were designed and built during WWII. They could be cheaply and easily transported and erected. This one has seen better days.

The darkness on the left side of the tree bothers me, Gene.

Bothers me, too.
Sometimes that happens with HDR software.
It's as though the software is misreading the sky & applying different exposure to the left side.

Could this be fixed by taking the one exposure that has the best sky and blending that into the finished HDR photo?

I agree on it being too dark on the left. It wasn't as apparent full size. The problem, for me at least, on blending in the sky from a single exposure is to match color and brightness of the sky/mountain on the right.
So, I redid the process and I think this one looks better.
The hdr process was used in this case to show detail more than dynamic range. This is true of many of the images I post here.

That is a cool shot of History ... I like the original capture best. Well done =)
