This little guy was about the size of a matchstick.

The strawberry really helps to put this into perspective. The contrasting colors make the shot really stand out too. :D
BTW, I knew they (Gecko's) sell insurance and drive tiny cars, but I didn't know they liked strawberries. ;)

Pb2Au, great shot! Is that a baby leopard? Do you raise these yourself?

Actually, I think it's a mediterranean gecko.. a non-native Arizona species that hangs out around buildings and porch lights, etc. This one is the smallest I've ever seen, and I found it indoors at work. I've since let the little guy go (outside, this time). I do have some reptiles, but no lizards...

Thanks for all the kind comments, I actually have another version of this photo which I meant to post. The one that I posted has the BG totally blacked out for contrast, but I used about a 4th grade technique in PS (that's about where my PS skills are), so it's not prefect, especially above the 800px posted here. Here is one closer to the original, with the background still in-tact, and another that needs some PS work:

The eye on the second one is nice, but I need to work on contrast/shadow before I really like it. The OOF is what I get for trying macro at f/2.8... duuuuuh. :)

This one actually tried to sell me the strawberry after we were all done. Like I want a "slightly used" strawberry?! There is no carfax for strawberries... for all I know this one could be a "lemon"! ;)

By the way, the light source was a single OTT light with a piece of notebook paper in front of it for a little softening. The background/ground is just black foamcore board, with a little water from the strawberry. It's my $39 dollar rig. The two alien bees were in the other room... ;)

However, I did have a LOT of success improving the shot using manual mode and my new Sekonic L-358. No light meter=gray blacks, Light meter=black blacks.

Manual: 3.0 Seconds at F/9. 70-200@200mm with all kenko extension tubes, single OTT light source at ISO 200.. tripod MLU, timer, etc.

They are great shots. I love them, especially the 1st one. The strawberry contrasts nicely with the gecko.

Fabulous photo. Putting it on the strawberry was pure inspiration.
