hi all,
i have a photo gallery website, that is in it's early stages. i've had a few viewers saw that the photos are taking ages to load.
i have resized them all to 900 pixels along the longest size (to fit into the container on my template) giving them a size around 300 kbs.
is this still too big?? and how do i make them smaller, while still keeping my 900 pixels length and the quality good.
I use photoshop/bridge/lightroom, so any advice using one of these programs would be great.
thanks.

Those file sizes are fine ... who is your hosting provider? Is the link in your signature, the gallery you are referring too? I had no issues loading images at a reasonable rate.

Thanks Gator, yes that is the link. Interesting that you could load OK... Maybe it's a slow internet connection my friend has...
I began resizing last night. Now all images will be between 30 and 80 kbs. I hope I don't lose too much quality in the process!

Well not sure if there already all 30-80kbps but I checked out the gallery. All loads nearly instantly, even when jumping ahead 10
edit: just noticed it was flash and not lightbox. That's probably why it went so fast since it pre-loads the whole flash file before playing. Even though it cool me about 1-3 seconds to load on each of the galleries before I could click next as fast as I want

Thanks Vladamir, that's helpful to know... Yes, you were seeing the resized images.
I didn't realise that flash loads the whole file before playing... something to bear in mind and important to keep galleries fairly small!
Thanks again.

Don't quote me 100% but im fairly confident in that. Thats why sites which have larger flash objects have the progress bar and other do dads to entertain you while the content loads so you can interact with it. Unless it links to other flash objects. But your simple 'flash' thing or site loads when you get on the page
