As posted elsewhere, I'm going to Japan next week and I'm hoping to find some bargains.

Currently, I own:

20D
10-20 EF-S
24-70 2.8L
85 fixed 1.8
200 fixed 2.8

I'm working for a band, collecting images for archive website use, so available light is the name of the game. I'm thinking that I will ebay the 200, and get a 70-200 2.8L IS. I was going to sell the 85, but the faster apeture has come in very handy, and I'm thinking of maybe a shorter prime (perhaps 35 ish) that might be useful for low light day to day stuff.
I don't have a flash, besides the built-in. I'm loath to use flash, as I spend most of my time trying to be invisible, but should I really have one?

What do you think people? Anybody else doing band photography / run-and-gun reportage?

Loving my 20D by the way.... :D

Miller.

You could sell the 85 and get the 85 f/1.2.

Looks to me like the only thing you're missing is a wide fast prime. Don't buy lenses because you want a new toy, buy something that fills a need.

I would get the 50 F/1.4 for indoors. You probably won't find any deals in Japan, NY is cheaper. What you will see is new technology that won't be here for a few months.

Another option... good for low light and band stuff... would be the 135mm f/2L

Another vote for EF 145 f/2 L, Canon's sharpest lens (y)

Japan....

Beautiful country and wonderful people... but itīs so expensive there. You wonīnt find any bargains that will suit you. Just forget it and buy your lens(es) back home.

Buy any lens you can afford as long as it is a Canon and a "L"  8)

I would get the new Canon i9910 printer with ChromoLife 100 inks. When in Japan get something you can't get here because we do have the best prices already.

I like that reply. :)
It has to been something else then, because all of the photography equipment available in Japan is also available in the US.

How about getting a cute Geisha? You canīt get one in the US or can you?

I would get the 70-200mm IS USM then a 580EX flash.
I like to have a flash for creative images and the flash is just another tool to help me get shots that would be impossible without it.
The built in flash is limited whereas an external one is more controllable for each situation.

Forget the built in flash using the 70-200IS L USM!

Disagree...
You already have a nice body! What you need is more lenses.

Shooting fast-changing events, a second body and lens will more than pay for itsself (financially, or in photographer satisfaction). You also get the increased level of assurance of having a spare body in the event that your primary one starts acting wierd. If you've got more than 3 lenses, you should be thinking about a spare body, whether by upgrading and keeping the old one or by picking up a new/used body (film, if necessary). All the lenses in the world won't do you any good if your camera dies.

I agree. If something happens to your one and only body a hundred lenses won't help you out.
