Wide Angle Converters/Attachments

I was curious if anybody has tried to attach a wide angle attachment lens onto any d30 eos lens? Jessops make a semi-fish eye converter with magnification of 0.42 - effectively making my 24-70 into a 16-47! (using the original 1.6 d30 adjustment first) Unfortunately, the camera is not able to autofocus. I can manually focus though but am not convinced. Has anybody tried this and are there any work arounds? Also this was quickly tested in a shop so I am also unaware of any potential exposure problems.

Any help would be very much appreciated.
