Sorry to post this off of the software page but this hosted the original postings. Questions – can answer with a simple yes or no, are people who downloaded Adobes program using it or not using it for their main images conversations?
Secondly anyone care or have the answer this posting?

I am using the plugin for raw images from a Powershot S40, I love it, it gives me greater control than the canon standard converter for my MAC.
About the linear converter, I think you can do it, but I havent tried. Basically if the convertions comes out really dark with standards settings then it is a linear convertions, there will be a check box somewhere, also the adjustments are usually disabled when doing a raw conversion.
There are articles on the web for workflow of linear conversions I think there are links from the lumionus landscape web site.

The Adobe RAW converter is superior to the Canon converter in every way. I also like it better than YarcPlus. In addition providing more control, it is very FAST! Just a few seconds to convert an image not the half-minute that other converters take.

YES - I have been quite pleased with the new plug-in.

Have been using the plugin since it came out and still am inspite of the fact that it produces some more noice in the shadow area compared to Canon's SDK.
IMO the advantages of the plugin are bigger than the disadvantages.

Can you post some pics comparing YarcPlus and Adobe? Currently I'm using YP, but consider the plugin.
Thanks

I don't use Yarc but BreezeBrowser instead (the difference is not that big because they both use Canon SDK) so here are two photos :
www.prfoto.com/rawtest/bb.jpg
www.prfoto.com/rawtest/arc.jpg
Those are relatively big because they are of original size.
Saved as level 12 .jpg in PS7 in order to decrease the size though.
bb.jpg was converted as 16-bit linear tiff and processed through Pekka's LS342 action with normal sharpening and arc.jpg was sharpened at level 40 with Adobe's CameraRaw.
Both files have been converted otherwise as shot.
There is a significant difference in color balance which is of course not a problem because it's very easy to tweak in ARC and use the tweaked profile as default.
Photo was shot with Canon D30 at ISO200.

I just purchased that uprgade thru the Adobe website.
but it won't work.
I needed to update from 7.0 to 7.0.1 before installinghe RAW converter
I downloaded the 7.0.1 upgrade but it will not install properly.
Any suggestions?

marley...
first off...i'll ask the big secret question :) if you don't have a real (legally registered) copy of photoshop, the update will (at times) not install...
as well...if you have installed photoshop with a stolen serial number, the plug-in may or may not install (mine wouldn't even install until i had a copy of photoshop element 2.0 on my computer)...but once you try to open it (in photoshop 7.0.1), it will give you an "invalid host serial number" message...
not that *I* at one time (perhaps something like a month ago) owned an illegal version of photoshop or would EVER have used a stolen serial number :D
ok. so i finally joined the rest of the world and bought a real legal copy...and guess what? everything worked fine from that day forward...heck i even didn't remove adobe's little "phone home" library from my system folder (you know...when the app seems to report your registration info back to the vendor)
of course i am speaking of all of this for the macintosh...if you have a pc/windows perhaps someone else here can shed some light on the subject...
to answer the original question...i've been using it 50/50 with the canon converter and pekka's actions (sometimes i just don't have time to tinker...and i get to missing linear sharpen) it IS fast (very) and it's really cool being able to see a good sized preview of the image for color balance adjustments...i still like LS for sharpening more than the adobe plug (to be honest) but i think it's well worth the $99 they're asking for...

Either you have a pirated version of Photoshop or someone has posted your serial number on the internet and Adobe has blacklisted it.
If 1/ then buy Photoshop.
If 2/ then contact Adobe
Notice that the adobe raw plugin has also its own (and updated) list of blacklisted serial numbers.

No comment on the softwares originhttp://photography-on-the.net/forum/emoticons/biggrin.gif
I did pay $99 for the RAW upgrade.
That's a fair price photoshop 7.0
maybe a trade can be worked out?
If Photoshop 7.0.1 is gonna cost me $600
I'll go back to using
Jasc Paint Shop Pro.

I think the serial number is fine.
This is the error message received.
"The Adobe Photoshop 7.0.1 Update Program cannot find Adobe Photoshop 7.0 in
C:\program files/Adobe/Photoshop7"
Please attempt to locate Adobe Photoshop 7.0 again or cancel the update and install Adobe Photoshop 7.0 from original discs or CD
I've checked the correct path and re-installed.
any ideas?

I assume that you have an ofiicial version of PS.
Have you tried to uninstall PS first and reinstall/update after that ?

Having just gotten PS7 and the RAW converter. I like it.
It allows me to get to something I can print out much faster. For my use, I don't need to convert to TIF or JPEG to view the full file.
Until I figure out how to have PS7 do a batch convert, I will probably still use the Canon converter to jpeg for providing CD-R of the session for models so they can view. For TFP sessions I usually promise to provide a copy of all images taken.
While I think it should have been included with PS7 or at least free with registration. I don't feel too cheated by paying the $99 to download. I especially got some of my money back (sort of) as I had to call tech support twice to get the file to download correctly.

I think you have been caught by Adobe's anti-piracy strategy. When the 7.01 update appeared a lot of people seemed to get caught when they had (so they claimed) legal copies of PS. You need to get in touch with Adobe Customer Service and have proof of purchase of some kind.
My upgrade was OK, so I didn't bother to get to the bottom of why some legit users had problems. There's probably still threads on the Adobe user-to-user forum.

What about the adobe converter with the 10D. IT doesn’t look like Adobe is going to support the 10D until its next go around – maybe PS8. Thoughts?

Longwatcher - Try reading the section in PS help on "actions". You can set up an action to do a batch convert or jsut about anything else. It's pretty simple; kind of like using a VCR. Just push the Record Button in the action palette, perform all the Photoshop steps you want to record, hit the Stop button. That's about it.

The 7.01 update contains a list of illegal serial numbers. You can find these listed in the archives of the alt.graphics.photoshop group by searching with Google using the key "photoshop 7.01 list serial".

I use ARC for quick previews but to be quite honest the preview is to small to truly evaluate and it`s like a lot of things in life where there are so many things offered you are tempted to touch the sliders.
I`ve gone back to BB for the quality previes and the superb proofs.

Why is it too small ?
The picture can be magnified up to 400% and the picture screen can be stretched bigger from the default size. It's good enough for me at least.

I think you are correct. However it is my understanding that 10D raw files can be converted with ACR if you modify the "Camera RAW.8bi" file using a hex editor as follows:
!. Open the Camera Raw.8bi file with a hex editor.
2. Search for the text string "D60" and replace it with "10D"
3. Save the file as "Camera Raw-10D.8bi"
I don't think it is legal but on the PS Adobe borad Thomas Knoll pointed a person to message(s) on how to modify the file.

YES! I love it and I feel it has extended the life of my D30. I always shoot in the RAW mode and the Adobe plugin gives me more control and I have been able to print quite a bit larger than before when using the basic software from Canon. Also, I invested in a few Photoshop plugins which work on 16 bit images such as Power Retouche at www.powerretouche.com and Image Factory (don't know the web site).
Cheers!

Can batch processing be done with the Raw Plugin and Photoshop Elements 2.0?

The plugin supports batch processing through actions. You uncheck the interactive box in the lower left corner of the plugin and you can batch your conversions.

you can use photoshop elements...
HOWEVER...
it only can convert the files as 8 bit tiffs (and not as 16 bit tiffs)
bummer, huh? just a word to the wise...
