Over the weekend out local school had the Bo-Hoo breakfast for all the parents and kids who will be entering kindergarten this year... so they can get all the crying stuff done before the actual first day of class... it was quit cute. Anyway, I was asked to take pictures of all the incoming kids so they would have pictures of themselves when they showed up - and the teachers could learn them - and the parents could have a take away from the first day of school... the picture will be on the desk where they sit. So I am jumping from doing mostly candids to more formal stuff... and I am not very comfortable with it. One of the moms setup, and I had no control over lighting but just like a blind squarel can sometimes run into a nut.. . I ran into a couple of shots I think turned out okay..... here is one of my favorites.

It was a tamron 28-75 f2.8 shot wide open at between 1/50 and 1/100. I now know I want the 85 f1.8 canon because I could have really used it.
Here are a couple more kids... they are just so dang cute at this age.

awesome pics and great face expressions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks AjP... I normally do sports shots, but this has been a fun diversion for the off season. I have a whole lot more to learn about lighting, white balance and all that now which I didn't have to pay too much attention to before. Cheers!

Now this looks like fun. And I'd say you did an excellent job. Shooting kids of almost any age can be a joy. It can also be a nightmare.....
It looks like you captured some great expressions and the lighting isn't bad at all.

Really great shots that capture each kids nature just as they were in the moment ... not just a flat representation. With that kind of quality maybe you don't need the 85mm!
