Eight pictures from the Pirelli International Rally held around Kielder Water.

I've got sixteen in total so there is a part I and part II thread if you care to take a look.

This was the first time out shooting motorsport with my new camera (1Ds II).

Yeah there was a sense of speed here, this car threw two stones. One hit me in the head and one struck the camera body (fortunately not the lens). After that I put the wide angle away as I was clearly only a matter of time before I drew the short straw and smashed an element.

Sorry about the names, I think I have replicated a mistake from the entry listing.

Thanks Tom,

I was reasonably happy with the shots and very happy with how the 1Ds performed. While not blazingly fast in terms of FPS, it is noticeably quicker than my previous 20D in focussing and tripping the shutter.

I did however notice that the rear quarter of the cars were falling out of focus a little more than I am used to seeing. I presume this to be due to the full frame sensor delivering shallower dof for a given aperture and I'll have to try and shoot a little more stopped down in future.

I've got the Jim Clark rally in a few weeks for further practice.
