Before I even step into the DSLR HD Video world, I'm thinking of using my G11 to create small clips of my children at birthday parties or a day at the park. I have noticed that I can not use Windows Movie Maker with the G11 due to it's .mov incapabilities(without doing some kind of pre-processing conversion) .

Any suggestions of a PC compatible, beginner-level, user friendly and preferrable free movie editing software?

Thank you in advance for all your responses.

You can try using the Canon software that came with the camera. There are some limited instructions in the Software User Guide on page 30.

Lot's of free video file converters out 'there'. You need to convert the .mov file to wmv..Should work fine in movie maker

Don't use Pavtube, use Handbrake if you must transcode because Pavtube costs money and Handbrake is free.

Thanks again. Do you have a link to Handbrake, Tony?

Can I download right into my mac's iMovie?

Jannie, G11 videos import directly into iMovie '09. Can't assure you that earlier versions would work, though.

Yes I have 09 but they wouldn't dowload, there must be something else I need to do, I'm hooking up the camera and clicking the playback button on my G11 while the top dial is still in movie mode, any suggestions as to my method?

You need to import your movie files from the camera to the hard drive with Imagebrowser or some other application, perhaps even iPhoto. After that, you can import those videos into iMovie.

I use Aperture and when I connect my cameras to my Macs, it launches and imports all photos and videos off the cameras. When I launch iMovie, iMovie sees those videos and allows me to import directly from Aperture.

Thanks Tony, it worked. Is there anyway to play it not full frame, like the size of most utube broadcasts, the images really fall apart from my little G11 at full frame.

In iPhoto you should be able to export or share at a smaller size. Keep that bit rate up, though - that's where you can run into pixelation problems if it's too small.
