Nice shots. Has Elkhart Lake moved into the 20th Century yet? (Not a misprint) ;-)

I don't know what you mean by that. They do have some new facilities, and just built another new pedestrian bridge on the backside of the carousel.
As for new cars racing there, ALMS races there every year and will be there next month.
Champ Car and the IRL are insane to not race here.

The track celebrates it's 50th Aniversary this year. It is the only road course I have attended, but from what I have seen and read, it is one of the best for us amatuers with no press credentials to shoot at.

Sorry, the town of Elkhart Lake, not the circuit Road America. 35 years ago it was a sleepy little village like the one I'm from. Mid Americas "Sleepy Hollow". I remember Max B fixing the clutch on "Old Yellar" in a gas station!

Yes, the track would be great for Champ Cars and the IRL! 4 miles & that long, uphill straight. Then back to turn 5! That would be worth seeing.

Oh, I have never been to the town. I just started going to the track 3 years ago. I grew up only 1.5 hours away, but never made it until 2002.

mmmm.... Can-Ams.... :D Nice!

I should be seeing some trundling round the old Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit this weekend. If I'm lucky the Ferrari 712 will be out to play!

Yes they are.
Thanks Tim. In all the photos I recall seeing of those cars, I've never seen a shot of the actual engine, just the injectors sticking out of the top. ;)

Cool, looks like one of the early Mclaren group 7 unlimited sports cars, I used to attend Can Am races at Mosport and Watkins Glen in the late 60s and early 70s. The unlimited nature of the formula made for some very inovative race cars, I'm reminded of the Shadow and the Chapparal ground effects car, I believe this series was where Jim Hall designed the first racing car with a wing.

The big block Chevy V8 dominated the Can Am until the Penske Porche 917 pretty much took over the series and in fact it was the Porche dominance that more or less ended the series as it was, nobody had pockets deep enough to go up against the Penske/Porche factory team.

Yep that was it, heh heh we're both showing our age:DExcept I'm just a racing history buff. I'm actually only 33. My "hey-day" of road racing would be IMSA through the eighties.
