Anyone know if there is a way to clear the Err 05 message associalted with the pop-up flash on the RebelXT? Or does it need to take a trip to Canon?
Thanks

What does the manual say for err05?

Hi Tim,

"Something obstructed the built-in flash's automatic pop-up operation.
Turn the power switch to OFF and ON again."

I did that--but no go. :(
Probably not much to do but send it away. Must be something stuck. The flash will not pop up--and is showing the flash on in the panel

Well, never mind. I solved my own problem!
I found you can pull the flash up manually--and for whatever reason, it seems to be working OK now on its own. No more error.
Phew!!

That is a common problem.

First of all, there might have been something really blocking the built-in flash from popping up when required. For me, it was the bill of my baseball cap.

The other problem happens if you don't exercise the built-in flash much, and it just gets kind of sticky. The camera will try to pop it three times and then give up, and it gives the Err 05 message.

What I have found is this. With your left hand, get ready to press the flash request button near the left side of the lens. With your right hand, use your thumb and one finger to prepare to pry up the flash head, perhaps using fingernails. Now push the button and pry. With that help, it should pop up. Try it a few times for exercise, and then it should pop up on its own quite easily. If you don't exercise it for another month, then it may stick again. If the camera is already displaying Err 05, then it will not do anything for you until you switch off, then switch back on again.

Hey, Bob. Thanks for the info!
I hardley ever use the flash--but needed it tonight for a special pic I was taking.
Those are flimsy little levers and hinges, I think I once had a problem with the original Rebel.

Thanks again.

HerderDog,

Well this is really off your topic. But I noticed that you have an XT and 100-400L. Do you have some shots I can see. I am interested in the 100-400. Thanks.....

Hi David,
Yes--I sure do. if you go to www.pbase.com/herderdog and then MacDonald's trials-June Trial-Processed pic---all were taken with the 100-400L.
I LOVE the lens--
also--most all the other alblums have exif info available on the pics.
