Seems to me that the S2 is hardly a "point and shoot". It does have that capability in AUTO mode, but so do the G-series.
I suggest it should be included in the G-series forum and be eligible for the POTN speed challenge. Comments?

I've seen the S1 posts up on the other forum, "Small Compact Digitals by Canon". I would think it would only confuse things to move it here. But thats just me. I know that there are a number of S2 posts there already.

I think of the S1 and S2 as being pretty similar to the G-series, if you look at the Canon site, the Pro 1, G6, S1, S2, S60, and S70 are all considered the "High-End-Digital" family. (When you think about it, the S60 and S70 probably have more in common with the G6 than the Pro-1 does, really, they seem to pretty much be a G6 with a cruddier lens, right?)
I guess it could be argued that the IS and crazy zoom of the S2 would make the photo challenges unfair, but the G6 and Pro1 are already pretty different, and the challenges are frequently won with G2s and G3s... it's less the tool and more how you use it, and judging photos is comparing apples to oranges anyway. It would allow more people into the challenges, thus reducing my chances of ever winning one, but that wasn't going to happen anyway.
I say why not? The more the merrier.
And if S2s *aren't* welcome, we should kick out those Pro1 jerks, too! : )

It wouldn't bother me if the S series cameras were included in the contests.
Teekay, I assume you have a S2. I love to use the video clip feature of my G3, but the quality pales in comparison to my friend's S1.
Do you use the movie feature? How do you like it?

No, but I'm thinking about it :-) I've just sold my old G1 (but still have plenty of pix from it to enter in the challenges) and am presently deciding between the S2 and the A95. Tough choice since the A95 is light and can be carried everywere so I won't miss shots, and the S2 has that great zoom but is much bulkier.

The S2 is pretty cool, especially the movie mode and stereo sound. I wonder if you can zoom while you record a movie, that's a bummer on the Gs that you can't. The Zoom would give S2 owners an advantage in some challenges, but the Gs have plenty of merits over the S2, as well, so it's fair enough as far as I'm concerned.
Why do people always ignore the S70? Seems like it has most of the features of a G6 (minus the lens and hot shoe) at a fairly small size. Do people just figure if they're going small, they might as well go REALLY small and get the SD or A-series cameras? I've never seen an S70 in a store or met anyone who had one, I'm just curious why.

Yes, you can. Also take a still in the middle of takin a movie. Check the reviews.

Personally, after owning the G1, I wouldn't buy another camera without the swivel/tilt LCD screen - that rules out all the tiny ones.
