Hi Guys...

I have recently sined up for a Zenfolio sight as have received a some requests from folk to buy some of my prints, have not got the site live yet as am tinkering with some "bits". I do have a question for those of you that use the site :

How do you organiyour pictures, I am struggling a little to come up with a coherent structure, at the moment a have a number of albums and several pictures fit into "subcategories"... I then created some collections, which works ok but the "all galleries" page looks busy.

I am thinking of running with 1 album as repository for almost all pictures and then categorising using collections from there.

Hopefully someone understands the question and can offer some thoughts.

I just had a quick look at your Zenfolio page and find it busy, as well. Why do not you try some other Zenfolio templates?

I think using galleries instead of collections may be a better approach. Collections are not totally controlled by you:
"Collections

Collections hold links to uploaded photographs. They can include links to photos uploaded by you or by other Zenfolio members. Since there are only references to photographs, actual photos cannot be edited inside the collection, you need to open the photo in its parent gallery to edit it, if you are the owner.

You may decide to protect your photographs from being added to collections by other users."

Since you host so many images, I think it is important to tag them wisely. Thus, users would be able to find images of their interest.

BTW, I will be back to your Zenfolio site to check out more photos, as some subjects/areas may be familiar to me. See my Zenfolio (http://naturephoto.zenfolio.com/) for more hints. :)

I am also in the trial of Zenfolio and find it quite appealing. Although, I still need to find out if they do fulfillment to Europe from Europe (so little lead time and delivery cost). In addition, if they have capability for localization.

Thanks for your response, the link in my sig is from my Fotki site, which is primarily for my family and friends but they do not have a Europe to Europe fulfilment for sales and shipment... Please feel free to have a look through and give me hints and tips, as I say I really want to try and keeo the photos that I have for sale separate from those that are either experimental or of interest to our friends and family.

Thanks for the information on the nature of collections, will have a dig a little further, just want to keep the clutter down to an absolute minimum before I send the site live.

Zenfolio use Photbox which if I am correct in my reading ship from Europe and will charge in both Euros and Pounds Stirling, they are the only site of this nature that I could found that offered this service.

I will post up my Zenfolio site once I am more comfortable.

Thanks once again

Brian

Thanks for the info about Photobox fulfillment.

This is basically how I have mine set up:

-- Landscape Collection (contains pictures from various Public Galleries)
-- People Collection (contains pictures from various Public Galleries)

-- Private Group (only you can see the thumbnail for this)
----- 2010-04-30 Public Gallery (anyone can see it, but thumbnail won't be shown on the main page)
----- 2010-05-02 Public Gallery (anyone can see it, but thumbnail won't be shown on the main page)

This results in an All Photographs page where your visitors only see icons for the collections. You see those same icons plus one for the main private group. You can easily have the same picture from one date shown in any or all of your collections.

Thanks Mark, I think that is pretty much what I was trying to achieve, will see if I cannot get the dtructure of the site sorted this week and get it up for some feedback :)
