Ron super image here love the detail you captured here although I personally would have liked a background that offered more contrast for the blacks on this bird more like a gray or green background, still a wonderful shot as posted and super sharp, The depth I can see into the eye here makes this image super.

Thanks, this was an experiment I did a couple of years ago using two manual off camera strobes to allow me to stop my Sigma 180mm macro lens down to f32 in order to achieve a maximum depth of field, the side effect is the low key background.

Ron I don't experiment to much with flash other then to use one :) I have seen you have some nice setups and must be very patient person also as setting up and waiting on a subject would drive me nuts. You have a lot of super images here I have seen since joining up here. I post most of my images over at another site and have for years there but I like to come in and help with suggestions for those more challenged. You are not one of them you know what you are doing. In this shot here you did would it have been possible to have a colored background with a flash directed at that also to offer more contrast?

Hi, Ron. Those are nice shots. Like the reflection in its eye.

Yes I could have set up a background and used a third strobe as a backgound light. Here's a non macro using available light and a high key background. Also a photo of the setup I sometimes use for these images.

I think I do like the high key better here as it seems to allow a lot more seperation, You look to have a pretty nice backyard there with a lot of great subjects to shoot also.
