When the Flash on the Canon Pro1 decides to pop-up, is it supposed to snap up or should it be more of a slower more fluid motion.
Darn thing gets me jumpy everytime it pops up. :)

frightens the life out of me when it pops up suddenly

but that's only if I forget to press the little button on the left hand side (top) of the camera , where it shows a 'flash of lightning' sign http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif
over the macro sign
press that down until you see the same flash sign with a circle around it on your LCD screen and little window (top of your camera)
that means it's off
you can always switch off the flash in the menu
but then it won't be so handy if you need it suddenly
and we can need these things suddenly
sometimes
http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_cool.gif
just a tap of the little black knob and the zig zag lightning flash sign will come and go, as you wish
everytime you close down the camera you have to watch out for that again and press the little black button to switch off the flash before you start taking shots
(which don't need flash, in your opinion)
if you have knocked off 'flash' in the menu then it will stay that way until you change the menu again.
no flash
it's a terrific little flash when it does flash
when you need it (for basics)
wishing you much happiness with the camera
I may have said flash too much

Thanks for the great replies. :) So far I am very pleased with the camera. And at its current selling price it seems like a bargain.

love the camera - works really well and I'm very pleased with my choice - I was used to having SLR gear and lenses - but when I went to digital decided I would accept the draw backs of a compact for t efact that it was smaller and easier to carry around - certainly do not regret the decision and accept the limitations.
I keep my flash switched off, unless I want it on - but when i switch it back on and it pops up - it is a shock and does make me jump :) :)
