Hey everyone,

I know you probably get this a lot but I am doing my first concert tomorrow and I was wondering if anyone could give any tips. I will be shooting Volapalooza who is having Asher Roth, Flogging Molly and Passion Pit.

I will be using my 7d and/or 1dmkIII. What lenses should I use. Options are, 70-200 2.8, 24-70 2.8, 50 1.8, or 28- 135 3.5-5.6.

Also what aperture would you set it at.

Thanks everyone!

Both camera's should do fine.
The 28-135 probably will be to slow.

Rest depends on venue and kind of shots you want...
Have you read the FAQ?

You'll probably end up shooting ISO 1600+ and about wide open.

What is the venue like? If it's indoors and dark like most are, I'd go with the 24-70 2.8 and 50 1.8 while not bothering with the rest.

Lens choice obviously depends where you are situated. If there is no photo pit, or you are allowed to shoot anywhere after you shoot in the pit, I'd bring the 700-200. Definitely bring the 24-70, and the 50 1.8 in case it is incredibly dark you have something to fall back on. The 28 135 won't help you. I'd start wide open with a high iso, but if you find you are able to get more than sufficient shutter speeds, tighten up the aperture and lower iso.

Post the shots too.
Good luck.

why do you have so much core equipment but never shot a concert before?
