View Full Version : A snowman at 70℉.

Hi everyone :)

Here in Montreal, we are getting temperature around 70℉ lately. Suddendly, it snowed for a hole day, leaving 2-3 inches of snow. The neighbour kids did a snowman. The day after, everything melted apart from that snowman.

In the next picture, I've wanted to illustrate the snowman in spring, with flowers and green grass. Can you feel it from the picture?

Please comment and help me improve my shooting :)

Interesting shot and you did well to document this exceptional situation. I noticed that you shot with very wide aperture and high shutterspeed. Was that intentional? I guess you wanted a blurred background and a sharp snowman. If that was what you wanted you got it exactly right.

However, as a "document" it might have been better to get the background (with flowering plants as far as I can make out) a bit sharper to accentuate the contrast "snow in spring". But that is a personal opinion (like everything else ;) ).

Thanks for that Vk :)

Yes it was intentional, background was too busy for my taste, I tried to hide it a little. I was in a hurry going at work, but stopped to take a couple of pictures. I didn't had time to experience with lots of setting/angle/position ;) I think that shoot came out beautifull :)

I agree with the idea of cropping, and I think the narrow DOF is a good effect for the shot. Great colors!

Here it is, cropped as suggested :)

Thing is, if I wanted a print out of it, I'd have to chop a little of top and/or bottom to make it standard size. Any recommendation?
