View Full Version : OULTON PARK - FIRST VISIT

I wonder if I could ask those of you who got to Oulton Park a quick question? Tomorrow (Sat) I am off for the first time to Oulton Park (great excitement -BSB and photography!) but heavy rain is on the cards and I am travelling quite a way. Can Iask whether the parking there is solid enough (in the event that it does tip down with rain) to stand a reasonable chance of getting out of the fields? I know first practice day will be much quieter, but my experience at some other circuits is that the 'strong-arm' parking teams place on such days put you in spots you would rather not be (mud) if you had the choice (the answer being a 4x4 of course). Grateful for any advice, knowing the parking was good would make me travel in any event. Thanks. Chris

Oulton's not too bad but you will almost certainly be parking on Grass.
I'd suggest going in at the main gate rather than parking over at Knickerbrook as that banking tends to be boggy at the best of times.

Goeff, what's the fencing like at Oulton - similar to Croft where it sometimes needs a slight raise to see over it like at Sunny O etc? I'm 6ft but have got one of the single step things approx 10" high and can't decide whether to lump it around...
It'll be my first time there as well but Alan's still on his hols AFAIK so will possibly have a day wandering round depending on the weather.

Andy,
There are no fences at Oulton Park like that bloody monstrosity along the back straight at Croft. You won't be needing the step...at least not for any spots that i've used.
The only places with Jurassic Park Catch Fencing are Knickerbrook and Old Hall (outside) but as there are plenty of other good angles you won't be missing much. If you can get close (Crowds of sweaty Bikers etc), i reckon the newly opened "Woodland Walkway" on the inside of Druids will be a cracking spot for bikes.
Hope you have a good day. It's a lovely circuit and i suspect you'll want to go back to something a little less Crowded very soon.
Looks like i'm off to Sillystone for the FIA GT's. :D

Thanks for the info - I'm possibly heading out for Sunday as we don't get Monday off at work and it will be a lot busier due to the actual BSB race (plus the hordes of sweaty bikers ;) )
Let's hope the weather is reasonable and I get some light as I not had a lot of practice panning lenses on monopods - I've only handheld before...
Have fun with the GTs :)
Cheers,
Andy
