Hi all, wasn't quite sure where to post this but as it relates to dogs I hope it's ok to put it in here :)
I wondered if any 7D owners have used the camera to video dogs in action (working/agility/ball chasing/just running around) and what you think of the video capability?
If you have a 7D and a dog or two and have the chance to video the dog(s) in action and share the video, I'd be very grateful indeed :D
Thanks in advance,
Angela

I don't think DSLRs of any kind are good for that type of video recording, not that in can't be done, sure it can, it's just a little cumbersome. Focusing is a major issue from my experience but I'll let others shine in on this since video recording is not my cup of tea.

Hi Angla,
The main problem with using a 7D for action shots is it's manual focus in video mode so you would struggle to follow them over any distance, focusing on a jump or a certain point would not be an issue it's only when you start to track you would be for a troubled time!

I've been using the 7d exclusively for Agility video recently, I'll ask some folks if they mind me posting. I have to say the quality is incredible.
I've been shooting mostly at F/16 and then some. Wide too.

I gave agility a shot with my 7D and was beyond frustrated. My dogs are fast and it had a hard time holding focus. Also, it was inconvenient because I was trying to shoot dogs (w/my 70-200 2.8 ) which was not great for agility video, so I had to switch lenses, and then switch back. My backup body is a 20D, but I might be able to make a case for a backup 7D...hmm...
But, aside from that, I haven't really played with video much... maybe I will give it a chance again sometime. For now, I am sticking with my Samsung camcorder.
