View Full Version : Outgrowing my camera...

Been using my 300D for nearly two years now, and as I've gotten better at photography, the camera has been able to keep up for the most part, until now...

Lack of PC sync is going to make the final decision for me. I am increasingly working with complex lighting and I need that PC sync. I can't borrow my photographer's camera forever...

So anybody else have any moments when they realized that their camera was being outgrown or do most people just upgrade whenever they have spare cash?

I'm still happy with mine but it depends on subject interests. Wildlife doesn't need that much in terms of 'extras'. You've hadf great value from it it seems anyway! I wouldn't upgrade unless I had to, but do now need a smaller, lighter camera for my next trip. I don't like the 350D but it's the lightest option.

Well that's the thing... I will still use my 300D as a backup/second shooter (so I can have 2 lenses at one time). Until now I've been doing wildlife, candids, crap like that, and the 300D has been excellent (and lightweight). For studio stuff, I need to go further, but I will keep my 300D. Perhaps I'll convert it to IR for astro work... Anybody else done that lately?

Myth: thanks for the link... interesting.

Great news! I am not outgrowing the 300D yet! I checked out the item Myth posted and found that my photographer/friend owned one just like it. I stuck it on my camera, plugged in a Pocket Wizard, and spent some time in the studio. IT WORKS!

I guess the 300D will live another day and for a small-upgrade price to boot!

Those safe-syncs are wonderful little units. My Sunpak 555 was saved with one on my 300D.

Another vote for the SafeSync. I bought it primarily to use my old Vivitar 2000 flash safely on top of the camera, but have been using it more lately to remotely trigger the flash with a PC cord. Excellent investment with multiple uses.
