Hi,
I want next week to buy a macro lens, I state that I have no experience in macro photo but my choice fell on these two lens:

- Sigma EX 180mm f/3.5 APO DG Macro
- Macro Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L IS USM

could you recommend a lens?

Tnx

I am not a pro by any means, but I had the same quandary as you a few months ago. I tried my friends canon 100 mm macro lens, had no real problems with it, thought it was easy. So i figured i would get the sigma 180 f/3.5 APO DG Macro and that it would be easy to use. Wrong!!! It is a somewhat harder to use than the 100 mm. I found it harder to hold still because it is a lot longer than the canon 100mm. Also for me it is harder to get the correct focal point than with the canon. I would recommend that you get the 100mm first, then if you are successful go for the Sigma 180. LordV seems to be the macro guy around here, so check his Macro thread for ideas:

Of course this all depends on your skill level and seeing as you have a Canon 5D Mark II I would guess you have a good to pro skill level. The 180 can take beautiful pictures in the correct hands.

Hope this helps,
