Great shots of the yellow-crowned night heron at work (even in the daylight). These guys are great consumers of crustaceans - crabs, crawfish, etc. - I see them patrolling the mangroves and grass edges of Tampa Bay looking for crabs. Mmmmm.

Very nice shots, and a great series!
Since you're asking for some criticism, I think it would have been better in order. #1 then 2 then 3 just doesn't make sense. Was the order more like 1 3 4 5 6 2 7? (OK, if not, maybe that order would have made a better story.) Also, in a series (in my opinion) similar exposures (if not exact) are very important. The differences between 5 and 6, for example, don't look right at all.
All in all, though, any one of these pics is great all on it's own. (Except the last...)

Wow! Great shots, CFC! Getting shots like these takes some serious stealth. #2 and #7 are stellar shots! Nice work.

Excellent!
These are really great cfc!
Very excited to see a yelow Crown so close and in action! :) :)
Awesome.
I "get" the order.. t's the photos out of order.. just need a little more decription..
f my take is right. he grabbed the whole crawfish in #2.. then set it down to tear it apart?
What's trick is that in #3 it's hard to see that he has half a crwdad in him.. and the crawfish is tail-less on the ground...

Thanks Scott, Tupe, CDS, Maureen! Cajun crawfish is my favorite too. :D
Scott, pardon my $ucky captions. I think my descriptions confused my audience. CDS got it right. #1 is the ambush act. #2 is the successful catch (now, if i had the "dive" shot as #2, it would be less confusing ;) ). As you can see in #2, the crawfish was still in one piece. #3 he spinned his head hard to tear the crawfish half and worked on the tail first and left the tail-less head crawling in #4. Both front legs were still intact until #5 and #6. Then #7 he turned to his right (my left) to work on the leg-less head, and gulped.
Ah, exposure. Thanks for pointing that mistake out. I adjusted the shadow, contrast and brightness of the pictures individually. I should have paid attention to the pp of entire series, not each picture. I sure will keep that in mind next time. ;)
I really appreciate your comments, critism and perspectives. That help me learn alot.
Cheers!

I never really liked crawdads... but man were they a favorite in the buffet when I visited the Louisiana property!
Great picture series though!

Aaaah! I missed the mouthful in #3 - that makes sense now.

Thanks Bonnie! There were crawfish shells everywhere. He probably has enjoyed free crawfish for a long time, and will continue to have such luck. ;)

Your crawdad wasn't fighting so very hard.
Check out this crab !--although another gull eventually won the prize!!
This guy hung on for quite awhile. :D
