Here is the closest most detailed bug macro I have taken so far to date. I think its not bad considering the glass I used to take this picture is at the end of a Canon A85! Any comments welcome.

Thanks Liza, I'm amazed how close I could get too. Probably to the bug it looked like an Alien space ship coming in or something cause with a Powershot you need to get real close. Really REALLY close. Then again, the bugs size (about 3 inch) kind of helped.

Fantastic. Nice detail. Maybe you didn't "bug" the little critter too bad.

Actually right after I was done taking the pictures I took the back of my finger and touched its tail with my finger nail and just like that it took off and was gone. Those big guys sure fly a lot but for it to get 3 inches long, imagine how many mosquitos it ate.

Excellent..

I'm impressed with the depth of field on this.. Except for the tips, all the wings are in focus.. Even the background isn't that far out of focus.

Wow thanks for the comments. I'm really amazed at how well a simple A series camera works. They're fantastic and worth every cent.

That's quite a cat you've got on the window sill... Seriously, the deep focus makes it look huge for some reason. Does the lens normally allow for such deep focus? That's the first thing that struck me as different from other macros - I can almost see your hand coming and picking it up like a rock.

Thanks guys. Kinda surprised to see this thread bumped up. This picture was taken with a A85 camera with no adapters or alterations. Just got very close. I am urgently waiting to see what my 100mm Macro lens will do come Summer here.

Awsome shot. I love shots of bugs like this because they all look like they aren't even real, like they are models. Like the perspective too. From what I have seen, the 100mm macro is an awsome lens.
