I simply use Google Chrome. Much better browser than using Explorer and Safari. Give it a try. You'll like it. :)

^ This.
When it comes to speed and system resources, not even FireFox can touch Chrome...

I abhor IE. The programmers wrote their own version of XHTML, HTML, and CSS, creating a nightmare for most web designers. It also runs much slower, though I'm not sure why. (See an example by creating a new tab in IE and then in FireFox. FireFox is almost instantaneous while IE keeps you waiting.)
I prefer FireFox (obviously), though I've used Chrome, Safari, and Opera.
That list on the line above is my list of browser preferences. Chrome has some issues opening excel files, especially with google docs. Safari is a decent, basic browser. Opera has been put aside by so many people that I'm surprised it's still around, though it is still an acceptable browser.
You wont notice too much of a difference between CPU usage among the browsers, but stay away from IE if at all possible. Microsoft is infamous for releasing products that increase computer usage, partly because most of their patches run on top of each other... not a fun story.
