Saw this while browsing the interwebs, thought I'd share.

This just reminds me of how sexy those old film bodies are back when electronics were really made of metal. I guess this is why the Olympus EP-1 looked pretty sexy to me when it first launched :p

That is so wicked. An AE-1 film turned digital? Interesting. I haven't used the AE-1 in a long, long time. I loved using that camera. Now I have no idea what happened to it. Oh how I miss that great piece of beauty.:(

I've still got mine...still works fine despite missing the odd screw, and having a few dents! Bought it at 47th St Camera, N.Y. in 1985. Never thought of it being digital, though...that's a pretty big leap!

I don't mind buying the AE-1 on eBay since it's like at $100 or less. I miss taking pictures in film.

My AE-1 is sitting in the closet right now. Makes me want to bring it out and shoot a roll of film.

The AE-1 would look good, sitting next to my Canon 50D by side. From film to digital, lol.

That's awesome - looks really well done. Definitely something different!

On a side note ;)
I think it was a link from Canon rumours - all that is, is a compact camera in an old SLR body.

Just a Powershot - nothing special.

But still a fun project.

Yeah, nothing special at all besides gutting an AE1 and rebuilding it around a P&S...

That's awesome. I have two AE-1s from yard sales I got for...about $10 each. Great cameras. I'd shoot some film if I could find a place to develop.

That's the kind of digital camera I've always wanted. I love manual focus cameras and have wished for years for someone to make a digital camera based on something like the Nikon FE2. Nothing beats the build quality of those old cameras.

See Leica M9 (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/649923-USA/Leica_10704_M9_Rangefinder_Digital_Camera.html).

Full-frame in a compact body, at the low low price of only $6995.00 body-only.

Yeah, but it's not an SLR, and as you pointed out, outrageously expensive. Cool product for rich people, though.

Doesn't Hasselblad have the corner on the highest-priced segment of the market?
Last I heard, it cost around USD $45,000 for a Hassy digital medium-format camera back, at around 42MP.

Digital Holgas :p

I've been looking for a donor camera to do just that. (I don't imagine I'm the first, I'm just not interested in searching for whatever may be out there.)

I was going to use my Banner (it's a cheap knock off of the Holga) but I couldn't bear to dismember it...

Now if Canon would just make an 18mp FF back for these I would sell the 5Ds and be VERY, VERY happy.

Totally!!! I had one of the early F1s...it was heavy and beautifuly engineered. Allen, I'm not familiar with the top one...what variation was that?

Still got mine, with a few FD lenses. Got mine in 1978 and if I remember correctly the chrome models were standard and you paid extra for a Black model.

Yeah, I know. Similar formfactor, though.

The person I responded to wanted a digital in a formfactor similar to the Nikon FE2, thus my posting the Leica.

Honestly, that was my dream. I have an old AE-1, still run Velvia through it. The back is removable, I have the databack for it (records the date RIGHT IN THE PICTURE ). So I thought someone should make a digital back for it. Would have to be full frame of course... some of those old lenses are really sharp.

Sadly, this one is a joke. There is no actual glass in that manual focus lens, it is just a hole to let some light into the compact's lens...

I got my AV-1 (basically same thing) off ebay for £20! In great condition, and with a great smell :p
